“A Lot of Tears”: Warriors’ Steph Curry Reveals His Reaction to Klay Thompson’s Injury

Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are one of the most iconic duos in NBA history. ‘The Splash Brothers’ became one of the greatest backcourts in NBA history, winning three NBA Championships in four years with the Golden State Warriors.

The two players are some of the greatest shooters in NBA history. Fans have been waiting to see the two back together on the court. Klay Thompson got injured in the 2019 NBA Finals and had to be out for the entirety of the last season.

Steph Curry was injured during the 2019-2020 season as well. People thought they would see the two players back on the court this season. But over the weekend news broke that Klay had suffered another season-ending injury.

Steph Curry spoke to The Undefeated about Thompson’s injury. Curry opened up about how saddening the news was and said, “You feel for a guy who has worked so hard to get back on the court two-three weeks out of [training camp] and something like that happens…You need to have a big-picture mentality when something like this happens.” 

Curry noted the challenge of rehabbing from the kind of injury that Thompson suffered but was optimistic about his recovery and said, “It’s easier said than done going through a lot of rehab, but there is a lot of time left in his career. We’re going to be there through it all.”

Steph praised Thompson for being the best in his position in the league, and how the news of his injury brought him to tears. He said, “He’s the best 2-guard in the league….To get that call was a gut punch for sure. A lot of tears. You don’t really know what to say because a guy like that is having to go through two pretty serious rehabs now.”

Curry believes that it is important that the team be there in support of Thompson in this hard time. He said, “But at the end of the day, we have to have his back. We hope that he is around and a part of what we do through his rehab and staying connected with us.

The former two-time MVP believes that Klay Thompson will recover and talked about his love of basketball. Curry said, “He can come back strong. He’s a guy that loves the game so much. He is going to do whatever it takes to get back out there on the floor and be himself. That’s what we hope and the confidence that we have.”

Curry did mention that the challenge of long periods of rehab could be tough for anyone and said, “Two-and-a-half years of rehab is tough for anybody. We’re hoping for the best.”

The Golden State Warriors will have to find a way to win without Klay Thompson this season. They have made moves to bring players like Kelly Oubre from the Phoenix Suns and James Wiseman through the draft to help plug the gaps.
