Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr Playfully Mocks the Houston Rockets Gameplan

Facing an injury crisis last season, the Golden State Warriors ended up as the worst team in the league. They finished with just 15 wins, four less than any other team. But heading into next season, they have their stars fit and they will be ready to compete again.
During a conversation with The Athletic’s, Tim Kawakami, coach Steve Kerr was asked if the team had any new strategies for the upcoming season. “We’re not reinventing the wheel, we’re still gonna be the Warriors,” Kerr said. “We’re not gonna all of a sudden turn into the Rockets — change our offense — and have one guy go high pick-and-roll 70 times a game.”
The Rockets are notorious for just running a lot of iso plays through stars James Harden and Russell Westbrook. This leads to poor off-ball movement and relying heavily on just catch and shoot. On the other hand, the Warriors have a lot of passing, off-ball movement, and attractive basketball. And every time they met in the Playoffs, the Warriors got the better of the Rockets.

Later, Kerr responded with “I think I would resign first,” when Kawakami joked about how iso ball is what Kerr loved.

“We gotta be ourselves,” Kerr said. “What makes Steph (Curry) and Klay (Thompson) the players they are is the combination of what they can on and off the ball. That’s what moves defenses.
“And what makes Draymond (Green) special is his ability to distribute from either the four or the five spot. As you watch (the) Miami (Heat) right now, you can see the influence that our team has had on the league. It’s really difficult for defenses to guard when there’s a lot of action going on. So we’re not gonna change that stuff.”

Not only will the Warriors have their core of Curry, Thompson, and Green, but they will also have a top prospect. With the #2 overall pick, they can either draft one of the top guys or trade down for already established players.
The Western Conference was already very competitive this season, and the Warriors will spice it up even more. They will fight to redeem themselves for the 2019 Finals loss against the Raptors.
