‘Lied About That’: Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie Adds Surprising Twist to Trade Drama With Warriors

The Brooklyn Nets have assembled a super team already, but they were going for more. They were reportedly interested in swapping Spencer Dinwiddie for Kelly Oubre Jr, but the Warriors declined.
However, there now seems to a new twist to this story. According to Dinwiddie, it was the other way around. In a recent video, the point guard was speaking to fans who questioned him about the trade. “They actually lied about that sh*t. Because the Warriors actually offered Kelly Oubre for me and the Nets declined,” he clarified.
This is contradictory to what Marc Stein from New York Times had to say. He wrote, “Among the options, they (Nets) explored, was sending Dinwiddie to Golden State for Kelly Oubre. Golden State rejected those overtures because it is still desperate to make the playoffs.”

Despite his claims, fans are finding it hard to believe what Dinwiddie says is true.

Could Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie’s claims be true?
After bringing in Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge, the Nets have further strengthened their super team. The rest of the league is lucky that Dinwiddie is injured; otherwise, their roster would have been a lot stronger. Sadly, he is out for the season with a knee injury.
So, is there a chance that what Dinwiddie was saying is true? The argument for the Warriors trading him would be that they have already given up on this season.

Oubre hasn’t lived up to the expectations set for him, and the Warriors wouldn’t be hesitant to trade him in a fair deal. In such a case, the Warriors would be willing to trade for Dinwiddie with the hope of building for next season.

But according to Stein and other reporters, the Warriors still believe they are in the hunt for a playoff spot. So they want to hold on to Oubre, who is a healthy rotational player unlike Dinwiddie, who won’t return before next season.
The odds of the former are unlikely. The Nets have shown that they aren’t still satisfied with the team they have and are trying to further strengthen it.
If a trade like that were available, GM Sean Marks wouldn’t think twice. They have gone all in for this season and are unlikely to stop if the opportunity arises.

So sadly for Dinwiddie, it seems unlikely that his story was true. But he will aim to return strongly next season and prove that he was worth the wait.
