“Beyond the Basketball Court”: Kobe Bryant is Lauded with Prestigious Los Angeles Emmy Governors Award

To add to the greatness of Kobe Bryant, another award is on the way. The Lakers legend will be receiving the ‘Los Angeles Emmy Governors Award‘ on July 18. Beyond his enriching 20-year NBA career, this award is for his “philanthropy, community building, and inspiration that extended beyond the basketball court.”

This is the 72nd Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award that aims to award those excelling in arts, sciences, or management of television and it is presented by Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS). Kobe Bryant is nominated by Spectrum SportsNet for this honorary award.

Kobe Bryant is chosen for his extended contribution to the greater Los Angeles area in fields like philanthropy and other contributions. Moreover, the awards wrote this for Kobe. “He championed a number of worthy causes and critical issues, becoming an ambassador for women’s basketball, a mentor and youth advocate, and raised awareness of homelessness in Los Angeles.”

Bryant is a five-time NBA champion and won the Finals MVP twice. He has achieved great feats as part of the Lakers franchise.

Besides his incredible years in basketball, Kobe made a mark in society by being a valuable asset. Some of his major steps include the launch of Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation (KVBFF). This foundation aims at “helping young people in need, encouraging the development of physical and social skills through sports, and assisting the homeless”.

Bryant also made a significant mark for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by granting over 200 requests. Kobe played a huge role in the support of women’s basketball. His daughter, Gianna Bryant was also an aspiring basketball player. Other than that, his production company, Granity Studios has been a fantastic venture over the years.

The Black Mamba died in a helicopter crash this January alone with his daughter Gianna. It’s been tough a few months for the Bryant family and the world moans his loss to date.

Once we begin recollecting Kobe’s accolades, where do we pause? It’s a long list of his dedication towards not only basketball but greater purposes off the court. After the Sports Emmy Award and Academy Award, this is another one to the big list.
