Horace Grant wasn’t happy with Michael Jordan accusing him of leaking information to Sam Smith, author of the book The Jordan Rules. The book, released in 1992, concentrated on the other side of the Chicago Bulls legend who was, till then, portrayed only as a sporting icon.
Jordan, unhappy with the book, blamed Grant for providing the information to Smith. While Grant has previously denied the accusation, he went another step ahead against Jordan in an interview with ESPN Radio in Chicago and called him a liar.
“Lie, lie, lie. … If MJ had a grudge with me, let’s settle this like men,” Grant said.

“Sam and I have always been great friends. We’re still great friends. But the sanctity of that locker room, I would never put anything personal out there. The mere fact that Sam Smith was an investigative reporter. That he had to have two sources, two, to write a book, I guess. Why would MJ just point me out?”

Grant went on to say that the “grudge” from Jordan was clearly visible in The Last Dance, which according to him was far from being a documentary. There was far too much in the hands of one man according to Grant. He also expressed his discontent on the portrayal of many of Jordan’s teammates.
“I would say [it was] entertaining, but we know, who was there as teammates, that about 90% of it — I don’t know if I can say it on air, but B.S. in terms of the realness of it,” Grant said.

“It wasn’t real — because a lot of things [Jordan] said to some of his teammates, that his teammates went back at him. But all of that was kind of edited out of the documentary if you want to call it a documentary.”

Grant was Jordan’s teammate at the Bulls and was influential in their first three-peat in 1993. He later moved to Orlando Magic in 1994 when his relationship with Jordan started to deteriorate.
Jordan had then retired from basketball and was playing baseball. Grant stayed with the Magic as MJ came back and won another three-peat with the Bulls.
