The NBA season’s return has occupied almost every fans’ mind these days. And moreover, if you’re a Los Angeles Lakers supporter, you’re surely hoping for a return more than others. With his team being the league favorites this time, Frank Vogel is ‘optimistic’ about the potential return of the season.

Recently, Lakers’ head coach shared his views on the team’s state post-pandemic and much more, on a conference call with the reporters.

“We’re not going to be back on (May) 8th,” said Vogel, who is concerned about the safety of the players. “There’s a handful of teams around the league that are going to be back on the 8th, most of them will not. We’ll continue to see how things progress next week.”

Frank Vogel is ‘Optimistic’ for the Los Angeles Lakers

Vogel remains optimistic of the team’s chances of getting a shot at the title. He is expecting the season to be back in a while.

“I’m an optimist by nature. I feel like we’re gonna have an opportunity to finish the season. I’m very well aware that there is a possibility that it does not happen. I just think with the whole world working the way it’s working,” Vogel said.

“To improve testing, to improve hospital capacity, to further understand the virus, to further understand social distancing guidelines and all those types of things. I’m just optimistic and hopeful that we’re going to be able to finish the season.”

The Los Angeles Lakers finished at the top of the Western Conference standings with a 49-14 record. They made it to the playoffs smoothly but unfortunately, the season got suspended.

LeBron James was a strong force on the court this season. He’s probably the major reason that Lakers were eyeing the trophy. Lakers’ fans are skeptical about whether they will be able to maintain the momentum if the season happens to resume.

Vogel shared his stand on the same. “Well, that’s the great unknown. No one’s ever been in this situation before where in the middle of the season you take a hiatus this long. My hope is that we will return to form when we’re able to resume.”

Vogel is also in the same dilemma as the others but he is hopeful for the best. “I think the buildup is going to be critical that we do it at the right pace if we’re able to get a camp. We build our guys back up at the right pace so guys are getting back in shape without getting injured and that we ultimately get to the games in fully good health.”

The Lakers are preparing for a solid comeback

Amidst the hiatus, various NBA teams have tried to keep up with the team spirit and coordination through Zoom calls. Lakers are also trying video calls to get back in shape like the rest of the season. More than any other team, they wish to be in the form in which they had left.

“(But) just watching the tapes … we had a really good team. Have a really good team. Hopefully, all the habits that we built throughout the course of the season won’t be too far away from us resuming those,” Vogel said.

Vogel agrees to the fact that these sessions are helping them as a team. “Our video guys, Dru Anthrop and Jon Pastorek have done an incredible job of putting together very detailed edits of high volume for us to be able to study the things were working for us, things we need to improve, and more importantly to remind us as we watch these tapes, how good a team we had,” he said.

“These (Zoom) meetings have been very exciting and encouraging. It’s something that makes me want even more to have the opportunity to finish our season when it’s safe and appropriate.

“I really don’t know what that timeline would look like. But I would hope that there’s going to at least be a handful of regular-season games or exhibition games if they decide not to do regular-season games.”

Vogel is really wishing that there are at least a few matches to decide a champion for this season. His mere hope of a potential comeback to the season shows how eagerly he wants to win the title.
