The NBA community isn’t over the death of Kobe Bryant yet. Several months may have passed since the accident, but the wound remains fresh. And more so for some than others. Just like Bryant’s family, Shaquille O’Neal also remains hurt. In a recent interview, he reminisced about some past moments and talked about his feelings regarding Kobe’s demise.

NBA stars Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant have had their bitter moments when they were on the Los Angeles Lakers roster together. Two amazing players, two show stoppers. It was bound to happen. However, the duo also shared an amazing friendship once they got over it all.

In an exclusive interview with Hollywood Life, Shaq talked about how much he misses Bryant, and will continue to hold his memories dear.

“I miss young fella, that’s what I used to call him. But, those memories will always be there, our names will always be attached to one another. Kobe was stolen from us too early.”
Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant were known for the championships they won together. Shaq was a part of Bryant’s decorated 20-season career with the NBA and the Lakers for 8 seasons. In this duration, they brought home three championship trophies and made countless memories.
In the same interview with HL, Shaq recalled his feelings when the famous photographer Andy Bernstein sent him pictures from the Championship parade in 2000. Bernstein shared the pictures with Shaq on June 19, 2020, the 20 year anniversary of the duo’s first championship together.
Hollywood Life’s Jenna Lemoncelli wrote,
“I actually woke up that morning [the anniversary, June 19, 2020] and the great Andy Bernstein, who took a couple pictures of us at the parade [following the Lakers 2000 championship], sent me the photos. Those are good memories,” he remembered.”

Shaq and Kobe’s friendship was iconic. Hence, it is obvious that the huge hunk-o-Shaq broke down during his speech after his ‘brother’ Kobe died. Kobe Bryant died in a tragic helicopter crash, along with his daughter Gianna and seven others on board.
We hope all those mourning the Black Mamba’s demise find peace soon.
