The season is nearing its end, and teams are eyeing the coming offseason quite carefully. The Sacramento Kings, who finished 12th in the Western Conference standings this season, are ready to take on the coming months. Kings’ general manager Monte McNair has recently given a hint of their plans for the next season.

The plan for the coming offseason enhances the significance of De’Aaron Fox in the team. He averaged 21.2 points, 6.8 assists, and 3.8 rebounds this season. McNair has now cleared the air around De’Aaron staying for the next year.

With his free agency in sight, Fox will be expecting a max extension contract from Sacramento. “Depending on where the NBA’s final salary cap numbers come in, Fox is eligible for a five-year max money contract worth between $150-180 million. Don’t expect a discounted rate. He will ask for and likely get whatever the maximum is allowed under the collective bargaining agreement,” said James Ham of NBC Sports.

This clearly brings out Fox’s significance to the team. It’s been three years since Fox got drafted by Sacramento. Now, they wish to keep him with a five-year contract. McNair himself reflected on De’Aaron’s role for the Kings in a press conference. “De’Aaron is an incredible young talent,” McNair said. “I’ve loved to see what he’s done and what he’s improved on over the years and he’s got a very bright future ahead of him.

Fox had leveled up his game inside the Orlando bubble, recording 26.2 points and 7.3 assists per game. Moreover, he knocked 50.4% of the shots from the field. Not a lot was expected from Sacramento as a team this time, but even so, Fox has gradually become a key player for them.
