The legacy of the Los Angeles Lakers has been carried by some greats in the past. While talking about the duos it has produced, it’s difficult to forget the magnificence that Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal displayed together. Well, continuing the tradition, now they have LeBron James and Anthony Davis making a mark there.
When one sits to draw comparisons between these two terrific duos, a big generation gap come to play. Kobe-Shaq was an ultimate combination in the initial 00s, despite off-court differences. They bagged three consecutive championships together, which made them the bigger men in the league.
Shannon Sharpe stresses on winning championships as a key to a successful duo
When Shannon Sharpe came to compare this legendary duo to James-Davis, he definitely upheld the championship aspect as primary.
“I agree they’re (LeBron and Anthony) two of the most talented guys to play together since Kobe and Shaq. AD is in his prime… LeBron James even at the age of 35 has shown that he’s still the best player in the NBA.” Sharpe told Skip on ‘UNDISPUTED’
“They fit perfectly together, but at the end of the day, you know great duos are judged by one thing: Championships. Kareem and Magic were judged by championships.”

It would be wrong to underestimate LeBron and AD as well. They have averaged almost 50 points per game as a duo this season. Davis’s game saw a whole new jump alongside the King that led the Lakers to the top spot in the Western Conference.
Is LeBron James and Anthony Davis a better duo than the legendary Kobe-Shaq?
Sharpe gave an example of the best duo in NBA history to prove his point further.
“They say the greatest duo ever are Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. And Scottie Pippen wouldn’t rank nowhere near Kobe and Shaq as far as talent, nowhere near Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar) and Magic (Johnson) as far as talent. But because what did they do? They won more.”
Well, the Lakers are currently looking like the season favorites and if they win this one, it’s going to majorly add to the duo’s incredible season.
“At the end of the day, if you want to go down as an all-time great duo, you have to win a title. It’s a must.” Sharpe reiterated.
We are yet to see if LeBron and Davis make it to the title. But till then, do you agree with Shannon Sharpe?
