Luka Doncic clearly stole the show last night after knocking a buzzer-beater in Game 4 against the Clippers. Mavericks won 135-133 to even the series.

The Clippers were ruling the game since the beginning. They took a huge 20-point lead by the third quarter. But as the game progressed, they fell short of 12 points by the start of the fourth quarter.

Mavericks’ star, Luka amplified his game in the latter segment recording 43 points, 17 rebounds, and 13 assists. He was ruling the court with exemplary shot selection and flawless plays. With 3.7 seconds left for the buzzer, and Mavericks were one point down, Doncic knocked down a step-back three through Reggie Jackson to clinch the win.

Skip Bayless disregards Luka Doncic for his clutch ability

While most fans were in awe of the young man, NBA analyst Skip Bayless believes that Luka’s last shot was a mere fluke. Dallas Mavericks and Luka Doncic himself do not hold a great record in clutch play. That makes Skip skeptical about last night’s play.

“The last shot of the game was a million-to-one shot by a terrible 3-pt shooter and a terrible clutch 3-pt shooter. He was 0-for-10 in the last minute of games during the regular reason with the score tied or within 1 basket…Dallas has been a terrible clutch shooting team down the stretch, can’t close games. In clutch-time possessions, Dallas ranks 25th in the NBA.”

“I thought they’re (Dallas) going to choke in the clutch because they always do, and they did. But the Clippers couldn’t quite get there because Kawhi Leonard is not a great last-shot taker.”

Was Clippers’ last-minute defensive switch a reason for their loss?

Skip Bayless doesn’t consider this clutch moment to repeat again for it was just a defensive flaw from Clippers’ end. Rather than Reggie Jackson taking Luka in the last 3 seconds, he says Kawhi Leonard was needed out there to stop him.

“You talking about a guy (Luka) who during the regular season ranked a 140th of 147 three-point shooters. He shot 31.6% during the regular season. It was horrendously bad. He’s also a very poor free-throw shooter. He’s not quite as bad as LeBron James but he’s getting there…How was Reggie Jackson even in the game?…Doc (Rivers) help me, why was he in the game?”

“The other thing that drives me nuts about the Clippers because they are so proud of their defense…Don’t switch anything. There’s one guy who can stop him (Luka) and his name is Kawhi Leonard, former defensive player of the year. You cannot switch.”
