South Carolina remains undefeated this season. Head Coach Dawn Staley will be breathing a sigh of relief after the Gamecocks’ semi-final clash against the Lady Vols, which turned out to be a nail-biter. It took a first-ever 3-pointer from their No.10 Kamilla Cardoso to keep the Gamecocks’ unbeaten streak alive.

Following this, the senior center was delighted about keeping her side’s hopes alive. The Brazilian expressed her elation when one of the commentators spoke with her for a postgame interview.

After getting mobbed by her teammates, a happy Cardoso opened up on her season-saving buzzer-beater. She said, “Coach wanted me to get the ball and hit it to Pao. Then, she tell me to shoot it and I was like okay. I practised them. So I just stepped back and shot it.” After this, she was asked about how was she feeling about this surreal moment. To this, she replied, “I’m very happy. I feel like my teammates needed me. Didn’t have the best game that I could have. I think I was off all night. So, I’m just happy I made the shot and I’m able to take them to Finals.”

Indeed, it was a quiet night for the 6′ 7″ Brazilian center. In her 30 minutes on the hardwood, she could only manage to get 13 points while grabbing 5 rebounds. Further, she could only dish out a single assist and had 3 blocks next to her name.

Anyhow, Cardoso maintained an impressive field goal percentage of 60% which was the other highlight apart from her game-clinching 3-pointer. It was a special moment for the 22-year-old as she was able to do it in front of her family.

Cardoso makes her family proud

This thrilling victory further was sweetened for Kamilla Cardoso by the presence of her mother and sister. Apparently, both of them flew from Cardoso’s hometown in Brazil the previous weekend. As it turns out, that game was the first time they got to see her play in person since she moved to the US at the age of 15.

Kamilla Cardoso rescues South Carolina when the time and need arise. With this victory, they advance to the finals of the SEC tournament where defending champions LSU are waiting for them. Fans are eagerly waiting for this rematch as this will determine who’s the best among the two in the SEC.
