Deion Sanders in the NFL—that’s a combination a lot of football fans must be dying to witness, right? But it’s equally haunting for Colorado Buffaloes fans who might have to sacrifice their fav, Coach Prime. Already going by the hush-hush, it looks like the $11 billion NFL giant Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones can’t wait to spread out a red carpet for Deion. But is the Buffs HC all ready for the big swap? Here, the Buffs alum-turned-insider knows the Colorado HC too well and dropped some interesting insights about the chances of a Deion x Dallas collab.
With only two months left for the 2024 season to end, Deion’s “last chance” narrative comes to light yet again. That’s because rumors started to pour in that the Buffs QB Shedeur Sanders is not likely to land with the Las Vegas Raiders. The reason? Well, they say that the father-son duo are “significantly interested” now that the Cowboys have offered them a package deal. The cherry on top of the already sizzling rumor was Dallas owner Jones’ kind words for Deion, as he said on the 105.3 The Fan podcast, “One of his greatest skills, that he really brings to college, is that he almost has no peer as far as being a recruiter.” While many assumed Jones was eyeing Deion Sanders for his team, he dropped a bombshell by pointing out that this particular skill set isn’t a key factor for NFL coaches. With the Buffs thriving under him, Jones seemed to hint that Sanders’ talents are perfectly suited for the college game. So when the Buffs former QB Joel Klatt appeared on the Dan Patrick Show, it was obvious he had to share his take on the likeliness of Deion’s big swap. He started with, “He’s never, he’s never lied to me. I talked to him through the process of getting hired at Colorado.”

Now that’s enough for you folks to trust Klatt and his insights! When he had a talk with Coach Prime about him leaving college football, the insider dropped the big news: “I asked him last Friday, ‘Do you want to go to the NFL?’ and he looked at me and he said ‘No.’” And how could he just let go of the Buffs HC without finding the reason behind his disinterest in the NFL?
He nagged Deion a bit more, and VOILA! We got our answers. “He said, ‘Because I don’t feel like I would be fulfilling my calling and my purpose if I was there..listen, my calling is to impact young men and be a mentor to young men,’” shared Klatt. So in a nutshell, the NFL players not following his advice to the t will not sit well with Coach Prime. Well, good for Deion, since he has found a new purpose in Boulder.

Why did Deion Sanders pass on the tempting NFL offer?
On Tuesday, November 19, Buffs HC took the matter into his own hands to shut down the rumors of him calling it quits with Colorado. During a press conference, Coach Prime claimed, “I’m happy where I am, man. I’ve got a kickstand down. You know what a kickstand is? … That means I’m resting. I’m good, I’m happy, I’m excited. I’m enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here, truly do.” Now that must be enough clarity for the fans. But what made Deion let go of the enticing offer?
The Buffs HC is now all about his favorite Julian “JuJu” Lewis. He had been running after the 5-star QB commit for quite a long time now. And finally, his hard work paid off. The 17-year-old Carrollton High phenom committed to Colorado on November 21. No brownie points for guessing who is happiest right now.

Have to be Deion Sanders. After all, he will have the big task of molding Julian Lewis in the Buffs way. As analyst Scott Procter once claimed on the Locked on Buffs podcast, “He’s [Lewis] seeing what coach Prime has been able to do with Shedeur both as a father and as a coach being able to you know kind of build him up for this moment.” Now that his son Shedeur will be off to the NFL, Coach Prime couldn’t pass up the chance to unleash JuJu and remind the world why he’s the king of college football!
