Billy Napier’s Florida Gators have revved up their engines. At least, the clips from their final scrimmage say so. And from whom came a big thumbs up? The former Gators defensive tackle Steven Harris. Florida has been going through a rough patch now that their HC Napier is on the verge of losing his job followed by Cormani McClain’s “locker room cancer” reputation plaguing the program. Amidst such a tumultuous time, the scrimmage has ushered in a ray of hope. Meanwhile, there was one particular player who stood out from the crowd during the scrimmage.

The Hightop Sports wanted to dedicate a special episode to how Napier’s squad came off as an absolute powerhouse during their final scrimmage. And who could’ve been a better person to give an in-depth view about their fresh progress other than the ex-Gators Harris? The former defensive tackle was in attendance during the practice and came up with some strong insights. It was evident from the ex-player’s face that he was thoroughly satisfied. He then stated, “It was a good practice, it was a productive practice.”

Even though they failed to seize attention at the beginning, gradually as time went by, they began to bring in the thunder. “You know started off a little slow at first…towards the middle of practice it start to pick up a little bit and then at the end the period they were running they started keeping track of the score towards the end,” commented Harris. What caught the ex-player’s attention was the players running high in spirits, “They were doing their individual drills and the boys was hyped up.” But what’s giving Napier a reason to cross his fingers?

After all, his job depends on how well his program performs this season. The Gators HC has already hit a roadblock in his attempt to save his job. All thanks to the Colorado transfer McClain who is yet to put up his talents. Amidst the bitter taste left by the cornerback, here is a game-changer Napier can pin his hopes on- wide receiver Eugene Wilson III.

Wilson III, the gamechanger Billy Napier is in dire need of

The Gators would be facing Miami in two weeks for the August 31 opener. And guess what? The preparations are going full-on. Napier’s army took the field at the Swamp and came up with flying colors during their second scrimmage of fall camp. During the camp, Wilson III stole all the spotlight. The confirmation dropped in from the WR’s teammate and Wisconsin transfer Chimere Dike who stated, “The thing that I’ve never been around is his ability to accelerate. I’ve never seen that before.”

The 5-foot-10, 183-pound sophomore is all geared up to leave defenders in the dust. He carries with himself the letters “YAC” standing for “yards after catch” followed by exclamation points bracketed and written on the tape that covers his lumbar pad. The power with which Napier’s WR has hit the field, clearly shows that his goal is to improve on his 8.82 yards on 61 receptions record that he bagged in 2023.

Such power is expected from Wilson III. After all, he is the son of New England Patriots defensive back Eugene Wilson II who had played for eight seasons. Is he the last-minute miracle to help Napier keep his job afloat?
