The 2024 College Football can also be renamed the ‘Season of Meltdowns.’ In every other match, one or the other player is spotted getting overboard with their reactions. This time it was not just the player. Rather the CFB fans were gifted with an HC-player combo.

On September 28, the LSU Tigers defeated the South Alabama Jaguars. But the 42-10 score came much later. Before that, Tigers HC Brian Kelly came off as chewing out their QB Garrett Nussmeier. But did Kelly mean whatever he hurled at the player? Maybe or maybe not! And what better way to justify his actions other than dropping the absolute favorite’s name? Nussmeier finally got the clarity. Now Kelly better watch his words as Nussmeier lands in an elite club.

The heat was already high at the Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. And Kelly and his QB decided to take it a notch higher. When Nussmeier reached the sideline after throwing his second interception, by then the HC’s patience had hit rock bottom. Instead of giving a vocal tonic, he appeared to tell Nussmeier to “wake up.” But the conversation came off as a sheer HC-QB attack.

However, now it seems that it’s just Kelly’s tough love. On the ESPN College Football podcast with Paul Finebaum, the LSU HC clarified how it’s easier for Nussmeier to pick up the commands that way, “Garrett, you can really get after him because that’s the way he’ll remember it.”

He didn’t even inch a bit before calling the QB “a guy with thick skin.” But again Kelly is a pro in applying balm to the wounds he created. To cover up his crudeness, the HC went to reel in Daniels’ name, “ When Jayden[Daniels] was here you know there were a couple of moments uh that we just saw with Garrett that I had with Jayden.”

Maybe the HC thought that this would reduce Nussmeier’s pain a little, knowing that Daniels too faced Brian Kelly’s wrath. That helped him to give in his top performance and land it big in the NFL. Meanwhile, the Tigers QB’s future is looking bright!

Garrett Nussmeier blazing his own trail

When Nussmeier threw the second interception, it came as a Nuss-ty surprise for Kelly! But not to forget even though the HC is still not over his former QB Daniels, Nussmeir is a true gem. Well, accounting for four touchdowns is no easy task. Not just this, another analyst confirmed how after his extraordinary talent show against the Jaguars he had slipped into an elite club. “Garrett Nussmeier becomes the 7th LSU QB to throw for over 400 yards in a game. In total LSU now has 12 games where a QB throws for 400+,” stated Grant Kauvar.

While the numbers are dropping in now, it was much earlier that Nussmeir found himself in an NFL legend comp. Till now, the biggest name in LSU’s history has been none other than Joe Burrow. He is celebrated till today because of his efforts that went into bagging the national championship in 2019. But what makes Nussmeier to be the next Burrow?

Like Burrow, the current LSU QB is the son of a football coach, current Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier. But don’t you want to know what Garrett Nussmeier had to say about the comp? “I think pressure is a privilege. I’m blessed to be where I am. I don’t feel the pressure to try and be the next Jayden Daniels or the next Joe Burrow. I’m here to be the best Garrett Nussmeier I can be,” stated the QB. Now that’s the kind of spirit that can’t be bottled!
