An absolute ‘on cloud nine’ moment for Colorado Buffaloes defensive lineman BJ Green II. Well, not every day you can land a gold star from Coach Prime. But October 16 was surely a special day for this young guy. CBS News Colorado’s Romi Bean hosted Deion Sanders and Green on her show. Hold on tighter as some tea got spilled! Well, the Buffs DL confessed how he had to let his wish go for Deion.

After all that man has an eye for talent. How could he just second-guess the Buffs HC? So here Green is today, playing for the position recommended by none other than Coach Prime and the Arizona State transfer is already coming off with flying colors before the face-off with Arizona Wildcats.

How Deion Sanders helped BJ Green II to find his true position

The 6-foot-1, 270-pound defensive end had spent three seasons at Arizona State. When he transferred to Colorado, Green had been a little skeptical. Having known Deion since his time in youth football when Coach Prime coached him, Green doubted himself about putting up to the coach’s standards. But now that he is in the Buffs hood, it’s time for him to thank the universe. However, nothing has really changed when it comes to Deion and his role as an HC. “He doesn’t change for nobody…he’s going to be Coach Prime going to be coach Prime and that transcends time,” clarified Green.

That’s where the Buffs HC had built the trust. “I just want to finish it out with who I started it with,” the Buffs DL confessed. So much so, that Green didn’t even think twice before sacrificing his wish. Interestingly, he had always dreamt of becoming an RB. It was then Deion’s turn to reply.

The Buffs HC had no doubt in Green’s choice, “He wanted to be running back…nobody could tackle let’s get this at the youth level.” But maybe Deion already had a Plan B ready for Green, “But dog mhm- that’s not who you are. You’re the tackle you’re a big fell you need to be inside.” And betting high on Green did pay off big for both parties.

BJ Green II’s redemption arc in the Buffs’ defense

In Arizona State, it has been never a problem for Green to set a high standard. But walking into Colorado, doubts plagued his self-confidence. But again it was the same old coach Deion who trusted him for a reason. Soon, Green hit high during the October 12 game between the Buffs and Kansas State Wildcats. Even though Colorado lost, the DL recorded his first two sacks of the season. This was enough to pump his confidence as right after the game Green said,  “I had to get back to who BJ Green is, and that’s who I am. That’s what I do, and that’s what I’ll be doing going forward.”

The DL with the second-team All-Pac-12 honors with six games into the season has notched 11 tackles, six TFLs, two sacks, and a fumble recovery. Besides his consistency, guess what stands out for him? Green has been a team player. Instead of making it all about himself, he credited the efforts of DL coach Damione Lewis, graduate assistant Warren Sapp, and outside LB coach Vincent Dancy. “We’ve got a three-headed monster at the coach,” said Green.

Walking into the week ending a five-game sackless streak last weekend, BJ Green is enough of a warning for Arizona Wildcats who will be facing off on Saturday, October 19. Well, the Buffs DL already did some homework during his bye-week studying film focusing on why he had gone five games without a sack. The Wildcats better watch out!
