Imagine the GOAT of college football, Nick Saban, taking a page out of Colorado Buffaloes’ HC Deion Sanders’ playbook. Sounds far-fetched, right? But not for Deion Sanders Jr., aka Bucky, who’s fiercely protective of his father and always ready to defend Coach Prime, even if it means dragging Saban into the conversation. But what’s the fuss really about?

As the mastermind behind Well Off Media, Bucky has made it his mission to shield Deion from critics. Recently, he went on a fiery rant aimed at exposing the so-called hypocrisy of college football fans who adore Saban, yet seem to constantly tear down Deion. It’s an odd comparison considering Saban, the legendary Alabama coach, has been nothing but supportive of Deion and the Buffs. But that didn’t stop Bucky from using Saban’s leadership philosophy to call out the haters.

Saban is the epitome of a once-in-a-lifetime leader, and his transformation from a transactional to a transformational leader has been widely admired. In a clip posted by Bucky on the Well Off Forever page, Saban talks about the shift he had to make, saying, “I had to change to being a transformational leader. Someone players could emulate, someone who cared about the players for their benefit, not mine.” For Bucky, this was the perfect ammunition. He captioned the IG post, “Having a REAL relationship with your players & genuinely caring about your players… It’s funny because it kind of sounds like #CoachPrime.”

Coming off a rough 4-8 season, Deion Sanders knew the Buffs needed more than just athletic talent—they needed a cultural reset. In typical Coach Prime fashion, he made sure the journey wasn’t just about grinding on the field but about building bonds off it. In January, he organized unconventional team-building exercises, including U.S. Corps-style training where players carried heavy logs across the field in pairs. Then came Navy SEAL-inspired drills, where players had to carry teammates on their backs across the length of a pool. These outside-the-box training methods drew a lot of criticism, with fans insisting Deion should be focusing on strengthening the O-line instead.

Bucky remembered that backlash vividly, writing, “When we was getting our ass whooped last year & all of y’all were in the comments mad because Coach Prime kept doing team building activities.” But the truth is, while the critics may be loud, Saban himself has never thrown shade at Deion. In fact, there’s a mutual respect between the two football icons, both of whom know a thing or two about leadership.

Nick Saban’s seal of approval for Deion Sanders

The Buffs fans might have had second thoughts about Deion, but never Saban. Coach Prime has found himself in the GOAT’s list of favorites. We don’t have to scout through old interviews. Just a month and a half back in August, during an appearance on College GameDay, the 7x National Championship winner was all about Deion. “I’m all for Coach Prime, man. He’s doing a great job at Colorado. … I think they’ll take the next step as a team this year,” complimented Saban.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Deion Sanders the new-age Saban, or are fans too quick to judge his methods?

Have an interesting take?

Coming from arguably the greatest coach in the sport’s history who has compiled a 292-71-1 overall record in 28 seasons in the mentorship role is a big compliment indeed. Not just the pre-season, but even during the 2024 kick-off the GOAT came forward with his eventful insights trying to help friend Deion maintain his competitive mindset post the thrilling win over Baylor.

“You’re trying to change the mindset of how everyone’s approaching preparation for the game. It’s the same thing I said before about the Coach Prime situation, play poorly and win, that’s like the kiss of death,” ex-Alabama HC dropped in with his on-pont advice. Now that Deion Jr. twisted the GOAT’s video, could the Nick Saban-Deion Sanders bromance fumble? Do share your thoughts.
