There is a reason why Deion Sanders holds such reverence and respect for his mother, Connie Knight. The two share a deep and emotional bond, and that’s an understatement still. You can always see ‘Coach Prime’ recalling the sacrifices his mother made so he could reign at the top of the football world. And it was another such occasion, where he shared with the fans an unknown side of ‘Momma Prime’.

Sanders recently shared an emotional interview on his social media handle. The 57-year-old has attributed his success to his mother, who used to drive six hours to watch him play on the weekends. She even asked him to save the laundry so she could wash it during the home games.
Recalling all those days, Sanders said, “My ma͏ma never cared about a͏ Louis or͏ Gucci. Only thing she wears, only thing she got Meat Coast and everything. My mamma ain’t even into that. My Mama never asked me for a first-class flight… She never watched me at high school because she worked Monday to Friday.”

This moving interview soon reached Knight, and she shared the same on her Instagram story. In addition, she responded with three red heart emojis. The caption read, “❤️❤️❤️.”
Sanders always remained cognizant of the difficulties his mother went through. Maybe that’s the reason a 7-year-old Sanders decided to retire his mother early and never allow her to work. He achieved it when he signed on the dotted line for the Atlanta Falcons in 1989. He declared in an interview, “My mother has not worked since 1989, when I signed the dotted line for the Atlanta Falcons. And she would never ever work another day. Because that was my rabbit in this steel.”

Sanders still has his mother’s unwavering support, as Knight never fails to praise him for his achievements. Something similar was on display recently when she lauded his son for transforming Colorado into a national contender. She would write, “I’m proud of you, son @deionsanders.” However, ‘Coach Prime’ faces an uphill task in the next season to earn the same praise from ‘Momma Prime’.

Deion Sanders: a stiff 2025 season
Let’s start with the most basic but crucial question. How is Deion Sanders going to replace his son, Shedeur Sanders? The Buffs’ QB slot is open and demands an enforcer, someone who could match the caliber and carry the team’s hopes on his shoulders. While he has two options, each could be slotted in. But not without dividing opinion.
The frontrunner is Julian Lewis, who signed this past December and has already suggested his eagerness to take the starter’s slot. But you should know that he is only a freshman, and his skills are yet to be honed. However, his intention not to spend time on the sidelines could spark some heated debate. If you thought having him in the lineup was a high-risk, high-reward scenario, you should look at the Liberty transfer quarterback Kaidon Salter.

Salter only has one year of college eligibility left, and you would wonder why he would join the Buffs if he were not a starter. Then you have the conundrum of Travis Hunter, who is also heading to the NFL and could be drafted in the first round. So, Sanders has a lot of thinking to do.
