Just when Georgia Bulldogs HC thought to have freed himself from the legal woes, Kirby Smart got into another mess. This time it is the Georgia WR Colbie Young who has been cuffed. That’s something big leaving teammates in a state of shock. And who better to drop in with some in-house gossip? Had to be the players. This time it’s Georgia DB Malaki Starks who dived in with some info about how HC Smart lived up to his name, cleaning the mess smartly. Does the HC care about his roster’s latest legal blow? Looks like he is busy getting ‘disappointed’ by Georgia fans at the moment.
They say that life always hits you at your lowest. This seems to be very much in sync with Smart and Co.’s condition. The Dawgs are still not over the 41-34 attack by Kalen DeBoer’s Crimson Tide. And here they lost their star WR Young on charges of battery and assault on an unborn child on Tuesday, October 8. Now that Georgia is sinking day by day, what did HC Smart have to say about it? Here’s where insider Graham Coffey dropped in with some updates, “Malaki Starks asked if Kirby Smart talked to the team about Colbie Young’s arrest… “Yeah, it’s a big thing that we harp on a lot. Starks said the team has guest speakers a lot and that he is praying for Young.”

That’s a clear indication that Smart is unable to live up to his role as the HC. Not just the HC, because of him, the Dawgs have also been thrown under the bus claiming that “culture at Georgia is truly a joke.”

After all, the numbers do the talking. Since January 2023, at least 29 people, staff, and players from UGA have been arrested on reckless driving charges. Before Young, it was Smart’s WR Rodarius “Rara” Thomas who was put behind bars in July. But is the HC doing anything about it? Sadly, he is more interested in something else.
Where does Kirby Smart’s focus lie?
A day has passed, but Smart didn’t get the time to have a conversation with the arrested WR. As Inisder Coffney shared a snippet from the Georgia HC’s press conference, “He starts off saying that he knows we want to know about Colbie Young but he hasn’t had a chance to talk to him yet and that it’s a pending legal matter.” Well, how would he get the time when he is still not over his disappointment from the Dawgs fans?

Going by the numbers put forward by ESPN, the program had an announced sellout of 93,033. Bringing the Big Game home at the Sanford Stadium, Smart somewhere felt the vibe was off and the crowd wasn’t loud enough. In an interview with the Georgia radio network sideline reporter and ex-Bulldogs QB D.J. Shockley, Smart confessed, “To be honest, I’m probably disappointed in our fans for the first time.”
What’s your perspective on:
Is Kirby Smart's leadership slipping, or is he handling Georgia's legal issues like a pro?
Have an interesting take?
But what made the HC so frustrated at the crowd? Well, this has been for the first time since 2019, and out of 27 straight home games, Kirby Smart’s squad lost for the first time. Is it the after-effect of losing out on back-to-back players? When legal fees outrun recruiting budgets Georgia Bulldogs feel the pinch.
