The Big 12 Conference Championship Game is around the corner, and the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, might just blackout. While anticipating the Sun Devils’ chances against the Cyclones is a discussion for another time – seeing as they battle for the first time – it’ll be a first-timer for their coach, Matt Campbell, as well. His team is on the verge of bagging the first 10-win season in program history. With this laudable feat in sight, it’s obvious that the 45-year-old star coach has some bonuses lined up, and, mind you, the figures will blow you away.

Cambell-led Cyclones will mark their second overall appearance for the Big 12 title after crashing out to Oklahoma in the championship’s 2020 edition. The team has produced triumphant results this season – they boast a 10-2 record for the year. That’s a noteworthy incentive for the American coach to strive for the ultimate victory. A boost of good motivation and a chunk load of change he stands to mint does that. He has already minted a cool $800,000 in bonuses this year, and who wants to conclude the season just shy of $1M?

Luckily for Campbell, bringing home the Big 12 Championship trophy potentially earns him another $500,000 in incentives. As per the contract details disclosed by ‘USA Today’, the American sensation has already benefited from all clauses that earned him $800,000. He cashed in on back-to-back $250,000 awards after the team won their seventh, eighth, and ninth regular-season rubbers, respectively.

As for the upcoming bonuses, Campbell will potentially be privy to a total of $800,000 if all incentives underlined in his contract are fulfilled, which, although it seems like a stretch, isn’t impossible seeing the coach and his team’s track record for the year. Campbell emerged as Iowa State’s winningest coach for the season and currently stands proud of a 62-50 overall record, with a 44-36 record against the Big 12 rivals.

Ahead of the Championship, Campbell also enriched media outlets with his thoughts on the upcoming rubber, and, for those unaware, he is optimistic about his team’s chances.

Matthew Campbell highlights key differences between the 2020 title game and the 2024 showdown

The Cyclones are eying for the Big 12 Conference Championship title after a wild run this season. Four years after the team suffered an unfortunate loss in the summit clash for the title, their coach, Matthew Campbell, is focused on righting those wrongs. Explaining what marks a noteworthy difference between their chances from the 2020 title game to a potential win this year, the American coach told the reporters:

“I just remember 2020 was so different. It was a different animal and you had great guys like Jaylin and Darien and Huff that were part of that journey. So I think, you know, we always try to use history as a great guy post to how do we grow forward and to have some of the guys that were here to be a part of that history to kind of navigate the messaging of, hey, here’s what we felt in this is what the locker room looks like and it’s kind of what running out looks like and all those kind of things.”

With eyes set on the prize, the Cyclones won’t leave the field without doing damage. The Sun Devils might run out of run if Iowa State ups the highest metric, but we’ll let the contest speak for itself.
