Now that’s a prized moment! Forget sons making their dads proud—this time, the roles are reversed. Right now it’s a cloud nine moment for the LSU Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. No, it’s not his personal win in Brian Kelly’s squad this time. Rather, he is boasting with pride for his father, Doug Nussmeier. While the NFL fans had to choose their favorite team between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, Garrett was bleeding green.

After all, the QB’s dad serves as the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback coach. As Doug brought home the Super Bowl, his son could no longer lock his emotions. Garrett then poured his heart out on Instagram and dedicated a sweet note to his father.

Garrett Nussmeier pours his heart out after dad’s proud moment

Now, what better moment than to gift your team a win while your close ones are in attendance? That’s how the Super Bowl has been extremely special for the Nussmeier fam. The excitement for the finale got 100x more for Garrett. After all, he was not just rooting for the Eagles but his father too. The LSU QB donned himself in a Philly Green pullover and was there to root for Doug at the Superdome. Also, there was Garrett’s younger brother, Colton Nussmeier, who is one of the top quarterback recruits in the class of 2027.

The 2024 season marked Doug’s first year in Philly. Now that in his debut year, the Eagles could beat the Chiefs in a 40-22 drubbing, it’s definitely a big win. While the Eagles QB Jalen Hurts came off as the game changer, completing 17 of 22 passes, the credit goes to Garrett’s dad.

The LSU QB rushed to his dad after the finale and clicked some pictures. On February 11, he posted them with a long heartwarming caption. It read, “The original 13.” Yes, the Tigers fans might be aware of the No.13 as Garrett’s jersey number. It’s a tribute to his father who wore No.13 at Idaho and with the Saints. The proud son did not forget to mention Doug’s prestigious award collection.

“The original 13. High School State Champion, a National Champion, Grey Cup winner, and now a WORLD CHAMPION. I couldn’t ask for a greater role model, friend, and father. You are the true definition of a winner in all aspects of life,” wrote the LSU QB and the proud son. Doug had won a Grey Cup with the Vancouver franchise, the CFL’s version of the Super Bowl. Not many know, being Alabama’s OC, he had beaten Garrett’s HC Kelly, who was then Notre Dame’s HC. He then bagged the 2012 BCS title.

The LSU QB concluded the post on a sweet note, “I love you and I could not be more grateful for everything you do! Congratulations, this is only the beginning.” Well, looks like the universe actually has something bigger in store for Doug.

A tempting offer in line for Doug Nussmeier

Well, the New Orleans Saints now have their new head coach, Kellen Moore. Back in Philly, serving as the offensive coordinator, Moore had developed a partnership with Garrett’s father. After all, it’s their third stop together. Doug and Moore had worked side-by-side in Dallas and LA before landing in Philadelphia. Now that his mate is gone, will the Eagles’ quarterback coach tag along?

We are yet to get a lead for this. However, the Saints already must be holding a soft corner in Doug’s heart. After all, he played with New Orleans from 1994-1997. And guess what?

There awaits another lucrative offer if he swaps his wagons and chooses the Saints. Joining their coaching staff would allow him to move closer to his sons. Garret is all ready to begin the final season in Baton Rouge, and Colton Nussmeier continues his search for a college team. Amidst taking care of his professional duties, Doug Nussmeier has his eyes on his son, Garrett. If we fans think that the father has somewhat dumped his expectations on his son, that’s surely not the case.

In an interview, Garrett Nussmeier confessed, “People assume my dad forced me to do this. The coolest thing about Dad is that from a young age, he allowed me to develop my love of the game.” While Doug would love to see his son in Philly, he wants him to focus on what he has now on his plate. “He’s there with the team, and that’s important that he’s there obviously, and would love to have him, but you know, I’m in Philadelphia, and he’s in Baton Rouge. So, he needs to do what’s best for LSU football,” shared the proud father. Is Doug playing the long game in Philly for a family reunion?
