For the Kiffin family, the coaching carousel and the recruiting trail are now one and the same. While Lane Kiffin takes the reins at the LSU Tigers, his son Knox is heading to one of Louisiana’s top high school programs. However, LSU hasn’t made a move yet. However, the $6 million Oregon coach, Tosh Lupoi’s allure is already putting pressure on the Baton Rouge camp to not miss out on the younger Kiffin. 

“Easy walk for Lane Kiffin to the U-High field to watch his son play,” wrote NOLA News analyst Wilson Alexander on December 22, resharing Hayes Fawcett’s tweet about Knox’s U-High chapter. 

The 16-year-old high school sophomore told Rivals that he plans to attend University Lab beginning in January. It is located in Baton Rouge on the campus of LSU.

“Let’s go!!” wrote Knox on X.

This past fall, Knox played for Oxford High School in Mississippi, where his dad helped lead Ole Miss to a spot in the College Football Playoff. However, Lane was hired away by SEC rival LSU, making the move before he could coach them in the postseason.

Knox lit up the field this season, throwing for 1,236 yards on 67 of 114 passes with 14 touchdowns and only two picks. In his swan song at Oxford, Knox went 8 of 16 for 178 yards and three touchdowns to three different targets. 

The 6-foot-2 quarterback posted a season-high 202 yards passing in a 37-27 win over Horn Lake and threw at least one touchdown in each of his final seven games. He also showed off his legs, racking up 167 rushing yards and two more scores, proving he’s a true dual-threat weapon. 

The 2028 quarterback threw three first-half touchdowns in the Mississippi 7A semis, but a 21-20 loss to Tupelo kept him from the state championship. Even so, he left the field grateful for the chapter and the experience.

“Thank you, Oxford 🫶,” Lane’s son penned a short farewell message.

What made Knox choose the University Lab to attend high school, other than staying close to his dad?

It has long been a factory of elite talent. Five-Star Plus+ athlete Lamar Brown, the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2026 class, starred for the Cubs. The program has also produced NFL Draft picks like linebacker Christian Harris, Tim Williams, and defensive lineman Jaquelin Roy. 

Now, Knox is joining a roster that also boasts top recruits, including four-star wideout Ethan Kimmie and three-star safety Emmanuel Moses, keeping the pipeline stacked and the Cubs’ tradition of excellence alive. 

Even though he is still making strides in high school, the college football spotlight is already shining bright on him. 

Former Ducks coach’s move opens door for Knox Kiffin

Unranked by 247Sports, Knox already has his hands full with offers from 10 programs like SMU, Arkansas State, East Carolina, Georgia State, Western Kentucky, Murray State, and Sacramento State, among others. On December 19, Knox landed a scholarship offer from Tosh Lupoi, the former Oregon Ducks defensive coordinator who now leads the California Golden Bears.

The elder Kiffin and Lupoi were both on Nick Saban‘s Crimson Tide staff from 2014-16. However, a sweet gesture from the coach left a mark on Knox’s heart. 

“Some people just have conversations & give offers,” Knox wrote on Instagram. “Coach Lupoi watched film w/ me, highlighted some strengths of mine, & then noted some things I need to improve. He has been around many 1st round QBs. I’m blessed to receive an offer from the University of California!”

Knox’s newest offer arrived from Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies. He also toured the Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers this fall, but the SEC heavyweights haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Still, Knox had another priceless highlight to savor this season.

During Oxford’s clash with Lafayette, the Chargers’ offense drove into the red zone before halftime. The offensive line opened a lane, and Knox sliced through the middle for his first touchdown. He celebrated with a nod to Shedeur Sanders’ famous ‘watch flex’ pose, catching the attention of the former Colorado quarterback. Shedeur even reposted it on Instagram.

Deion Sanders’ son endured college chaos over his famous ‘watch flex,’ dodging everything from nepo baby attacks to intense criticism. Knox Kiffin, being Lane Kiffin’s son, will need to be just as mindful of the spotlight as he kicks off his new chapter in high school.
