Oh no! Bad news for Penn State Nittany Lions edge rusher Abdul Carter. The young chap sees himself as nothing but the best. However, there might be a slight change in his No.1 overall pick in the NFL dreams. After all, he got some blessings from the injury Gods. The injury status looks concerning as discussions of getting surgery have peaked.

Fans can now guess what happens next for him, right? That’s how Carter might have slipped his golden chance to be the top pick. Here enters Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders in the chat. And who is the one taking their names the most? Has to be Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi.

A painful twist for Abdul Carter

Well, the fact that Sanders and Ward would land it big for the 2025 NFL Draft was quite obvious. However, Carter too joined the race to become the No.1 pick. The hype for the All-American has been real. He came off a standout junior season at Penn State bagging 12.0 sacks, and a Big Ten-high 24 tackles for loss. Plus, he now has the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors after coming up with four passes defended and 68 combined tackles. So many achievements in such a short time evidently pumped up his ego tiers as he stated, “I feel like I’m the best player in the country and the best player should be picked first.” But maybe the universe has some other plans. As per the reports, Carter’s foot is not in a good position right now.

On February 26, ESPN senior insider, Adam Schefter informed that Carter had a stress reaction in his right foot. And what about the surgery update? The tweet informed: “’There are mixed opinions on whether he needs surgery, and we will figure that out in the near future,’ Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus said Wednesday night in Indianapolis, site of the NFL’s annual scouting combine.” The player can opt for any one of the two options now.

The first involves a ‘pre-emptive’ surgery in which Carter would undergo a process where a screw will be inserted into his right foot and taken out after eight weeks. The second option is to bypass the surgery and participate in the Penn State Pro Day. Going by option 2, the defensive end has played through the shoulder injury against Notre Dame.

Now the word ‘surgery’ is a big turn-off for NFL suitors, and well, we can already see that.

New favorites for Mike Borgonzi

Abdul Carter’s agent Drew Rosenhaus told Schefter that he is sending a letter to all 32 NFL franchises from Dr. Dan Cooper. The note would state that the player has recently been cleared to resume training and will be cleared for his pro day. Turns out, that the Tennessee Titans having the No.1 pick do not consider giving Carter a chance. Well, Titans GM Mike Borgonzi has been very particular about how their QB Will Levis will have to compete with their NFL pick. Now, why so?

The Titans have seen inconsistent quarterback play in the past season as they finished with a 3-14 record. On that note, analyst Ben Rolfe shared some inside news. “The Tennessee Titans need an answer at quarterback, and Cam Ward is how the winds seem to be blowing right now.” That’s mainly because the Hurricanes QB comes off as a finished product. And the Titans offense is not currently set up to be a place for developing a quarterback. Along with this, Borgonzi is all ready to overlook Shedeur’s weakness.

While the Buffs QB’s arm strength has been a major concern, the Titans GM has downplayed it. “I think he has plenty of arm strength. Some of the anticipatory throws sometimes make up for the lack of arm strength.” So, Abdul Carter’s No. 1 pick dreams may hinge on dodging the surgery table.
