Looks like college football is all about luck and play! At least the current situation of the Boise State Broncos says so. Yes, Spencer Danielson’s boys have moved ahead of BYU in the third installment of rankings dropped by the College Football Playoff committee on November 19. Now that’s something that got analyst Dan Patrick inquisitive and questioning his guest of the evening. To address how Danielson’s army getting a free pass could shake the format, chances are likely for college to change it and adopt Roger Goodell’s NFL structure.

So what’s the current situation? According to the rankings, the four highest-rated conference champions that would be lucky enough to win first-round byes in the 12-team playoff are Oregon (Big 10), Texas (SEC), Miami (ACC), and Boise State (Mountain West). Now the host of the Dan Patrick Show is not quite convinced about how Danielson and co. landed a free pass despite being ranked 12 in the AP poll. That’s when insider Joel Klatt comes to help, “Here’s how it works, the highest ranked five conference champions regardless of conference get into the playoff then you go at large from that point on and the at large teams are than the highest ranked teams from that point forth until you get to 12.”

The four byes do not depend on the ranks. Well, maybe that’s something that others Klatt as well since he is sure that this situation that landed Danielson’s boys an advantage will not last for long. “I don’t think it’s a model that’s going to last very long.” stated the analyst. Well, the insider seems to be looking forward to a time when the college football- -l will let go of its 16-team format. And with this transition, only NFL godfather Goodell can come to help.

It’s high time that college adopts the 14-team format. Even though Klatt did not say it directly, doing that would hand the power to the deserving ones as he claimed, “It’ll be only two byes just like the NFL and the only two byes are going to go specifically to the SEC and the Big 10 champ.” Until then, it’s time for Danielson to soak in the spirit.

A do-or-die situation for Spencer Danielson’s boys

The Broncos were ranked No.12 in this week’s poll. But so what they did not make it to the top 5? Danielson can now proudly boast about his boys for being the fourth-highest-ranked presumed conference champion, seeded No.4. That’s some different level flex, folks! Even though they are below the members of the SEC, Big Ten, and ACC, they are any day above in ranking compared to every Big 12 member. Does that mean it’s all bed of roses for Danielson and co.?

Not at all. Boise State will have to keep up with their winning streak. They will be traveling to Wyoming on Saturday, November 23. Also not to forget, it’s not an easy task to break the morale of BYU and No.16 Colorado Buffaloes who are still trying hard to make the best use of the Big 12 championship.

So, it’s a do-or-die situation. If Spencer Danielson fails as a coach and the Boise State Broncos lose in the Mountain West championship, their dream to be selected as an at-large team in the playoff will get crushed into pieces. Now that their weapon Ashton Jeanty is back in his form, let’s see how their luck favors them this time.
