Ohio State is getting started on recruiting for 2028 right away. While they are already looking at quite a few prospects, the Buckeyes should focus their attention on quarterback Kingston Preyear, who might develop into a complete weapon by the time 2028 rolls around. Having hauled in more than 3500 yards and still a few years shy of becoming 18, Preyear should be a priority for Ryan Day.

Based on his showing at the Under Armour camp in Atlanta, Preyear should be someone Ohio State has to invite this summer, Lettermen Row’s Mick Walker reported. The QB is tall and skinny with a good frame, but still has a lot of room for development. But his talents as a passer have been enough to generate interest from the country’s top schools, which should prompt OSU to get in the race as well. However, Preyear is predicted to stay home.

Auburn is trending for the star QB with a 40.9% chance to land him. The Tigers got started early, having increased their efforts after Preyear left his mark at the program’s 7-on-7 camp in June 2025. He also dropped by the campus yesterday, attending the Tigers’ first spring practice.

Preyear’s production is hard to ignore, having lit up the field at Benjamin Russell this past season. He piled up 3,026 passing yards and 34 passing touchdowns. In all, the QB recorded a whopping 3,564 total yards in the season. In December 2025, Preyear was ranked 7th in the leaderboard of passing yards in a MaxPreps list for the Alabama high school circuit. He is currently the 5th-best QB prospect in the 2028 cycle, and the top prospect in Alabama.

Interestingly, Ryan Day has been making progress when it comes to the 2028 cycle. Neimann Lawrence from American Heritage (Florida) trimmed down his list of top suitors to 10, which features Ohio State. He is ranked No. 4 QB in the 2028 class. But in case the Buckeyes hit a dead end here, Preyear at No. 5 makes for a more than enough solution.

However, OSU has to get started on the talented quarterback right away, because Auburn is not the only SEC team trying to woo him.

SEC programs are fighting hard to keep Kingston Preyear in the South

It will be tough for Day to beat Alabama’s in-state recruit, Preyear, especially because he is the No. 1 prospect here. Kalen DeBoer extended an offer in January 2026. And the message that followed from the 2028 quarterback recruit should get Ryan Day moving.

“It’s a dream to grow up a Bama fan, and to get the offer is amazing,” Preyear told Touchdown Alabama. “The program speaks for itself from the tradition, family and success.”

DeBoer has also roped in one of his players to sway things his way. Freshman WR Cederian Morgan, having played at the same high school as Kingston Preyear, jumped into action after Alabama made the offer. In a tweet, where the quarterback shared his gratitude about receiving the offer, the wide receiver replied, “YESSUH!!! Brudda come home.”

However, despite being the home team, Alabama is not Kingston Preyear’s top favorite at the moment. He is currently leaning towards the Swamp, as a dynamic Jon Sumrall continues to impress top recruits.

“They are No. 1 on my list now,” Preyear told On3. “Florida made me feel like I was a priority and a main target the entire time I was there. I liked the staff and the things they were telling me a lot.

“Coach Sumrall’s ability to win with the guys he has is amazing. There are not many head coaches who have won three conference championships in the past four years. That and how Coach Craddock is really personal, and he is easy to talk to, really stand out about Florida as well.”

Ryan Day will have his work cut out for him if he decides to target Kingston Preyear. The young QB still has to prove himself, since he is yet to be fully developed. But based on what he has already shown the world, it’s already got the who’s who of college football pursuing him. Ohio State might have to face him as an opponent in case a rival team snatches him up before them.
