Well, we all know how far Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes have come for Julian Lewis. Ever since the Carrollton High School star started to explore other options outside the USC Trojans, the Buffs have laid out a red carpet for him. Not to forget, the efforts have been vice versa. Even Lewis had promised Deion that he wouldn’t miss his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, as they both head to the NFL soon.

Amidst that, there is no doubt that as a freshman, Lewis will have to fight for the starting QB spot, especially with Kaidon Salter in the mix. However, Lewis has nothing to worry much about. After all, Shedeur is just one call away.

Even before Lewis committed to Boulder, he had bonded very well with Shedeur. Do you remember the famous photo shoot of the duo? In the picture, Lewis was seated on the Buffs throne donning the black and gold Colorado jersey. However, Shedeur was spotted in casual attire looking dapper in a hoodie and denim. Deion’s son was captured passing the baton to Lewis. Instead of the baton, here the keys did the honors.

From the picture, it was evident that trust and respect reign between the two. In a recent podcast, Shedeur doubled down on the bond they share. On the 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders podcast, host Darius Sanders had a question for the Buffs QB who now enjoys all the NFL limelight.

He asked, “What about JuJu? You spoke previously that y’all had a relationship. How do you plan to help him turn up this season?” Deion’s son had his answer ready. He immediately replied, “Just being there for him. Any questions they have, I’m able to answer for them.” Not to forget, Shedeur himself faced pressure from the program, just as Lewis will soon.

The college football fans tried to instill some jealousy in Shedeur, hinting at the chances of Julian Lewis replacing him in Deion’s list of favorites. But when it’s JuJu, the Buffs QB would gladly accept if this situation arises. As Shedeur once claimed, “I wouldn’t be mad at that cause you know whoever’s the next quarterback, which it should be Julian, he’ll be like his new son.” But will Lewis be able to use all the guidance from his mentor in his freshman season?

Julian Lewis’ roadblock to keep his promise

Well, the Carrollton High School can never see Coach Prime in pain. Before the Alamo Bowl, when Deion walked his sons for the last time in Boulder, it was immensely emotional for the Buffs HC. He shared, “That’s tough, to know that that’s it, that that walk won’t happen again. That’s tough. We’ve been doing this for a long time.” That’s when Lewis thought of doing something about it.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Julian Lewis fill Shedeur Sanders' shoes, or will Kaidon Salter steal the spotlight?

He posted a picture of the Buffs locker room. It showed the No.2 jersey of Shedeur and his No.10 jersey hanging side by side. This was followed by a heart-touching caption from Lewis as he wrote, “You left huge shoes to fill, but I promise to work to leave @CUBuffsFootball even better than I found it. Forever grateful 🙏🏽 #TrustGod #TrustTheProcess.” But it looks like the young chap might have to wait for some more time to live up to his promise.

As per recruiting scout Cody Bellaire, the Colorado Buffaloes will start Liberty Flames quarterback transfer Kaidon Salter. As he stated, “Kaidon Salter brings an element to the quarterback position that haven’t seen for last couple years, which is the ability to run.”

However, this is going to be a blessing in disguise, and JuJu will learn and thrive under Salter’s shadow. Meanwhile, Julian Lewis still has a chance to shine when the Buffs might need the Carrollton High School star instead of relying on the run-heavy QB, Salter. Lewis is expected to thrive in a pass-heavy offense, similar to the style Shedeur excelled in. With this, no power could stop his growth in Boulder.
