Between 2010 and 2022, Michigan Wolverines held a win streak of 6 against Illinois. Now that Sherrone Moore will be taking Jim Harbaugh’s seat, chances reign supreme to lose the streak. The biggest reason is that their star QB J.J. McCarthy has switched to the NFL, and Moore decided to go with Jack Tuttle. But it’s not going to be a smooth ride with the new QB.

Now that the Wolverines are moving forward with one of the worst passing offenses in this nation, Tuttle would not be enough to change things as QB1. In that case, it would be enough for Illini coach Bret Bielema to throw a party. But to Moore, Tuttle is an absolute phenom as the Michigan HC is impressed by his improvement.

Sherrone Moore’s confidence in Jack Tuttle faces doubts

October 20 marks an important date as the No.22 Illinois Fighting Illini will be facing off No. 24 Michigan Wolverines. On3 podcast hosts Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman sat with deconstructing the upcoming game layer by layer. The co-host raised a warning for Moore’s squad beforehand, “Illinois is the exact type of tough um to exist in a big 10 West game.” They are well aware of how Moore would be counting on Tuttle. But the hosts do not seem to be quite convinced. “I don’t know if Illinois’s defense is able to corral the running game or if they’re going to find something with Jack Tuttle,” stated the co-host.

The QB led Moore’s squad to a 17-14 lead but then he shook the cobwebs off against Washington and made unacceptable mistakes while turning the ball. That’s surely not going to work against Illinois. Why so? According to the host, here Bielema’s crew will have an added advantage since Illini will crack the code to stop Tuttle. Plus, they are going to have a “sound tackling team” as a bonus. While analysts are doubtful about Tuttle, Moore has already raised the QB to a pedestal.

What sets Jack Tuttle apart?

Time for Tuttle to buckle up. The seventh-year senior of the Wolverines will be taking up the starter role on Saturday afternoon facing Illinois in Champaign. Finally, Tuttle’s time has come. Who is Moore’s third starting QB of the season? Earlier, it was Davis Warren and Alex Orji who turned out to be flops. Then what makes the Michigan HC so hopeful about Tuttle?

Moore highlighted how the offense changes with the new QB under center. The 25-year-old dual-threat quarterback has been magnificent with the legwork. Even though against Washington, the action has been limited, the starting QB attempted five passes beyond 10 yards. With this, Moore went completely head over heels for Tuttle and revealed his secret name, “Being (they call him) Uncle Jack, a seventh-year guy, that’s done it and seen it in big games.”

Now that not much time is left before October 20, Jack Tuttle has already started working on his weak areas. The QB is working on getting his timing down with Moore’s tight ends and wide receivers who had otherwise taken a backseat in their run-focused attack this year. Are you waiting for the player to emerge as an absolute boomerang for Illini?
