The 2024 college football season has dropped its curtain. Post which, the 2025 NFL Draft is also over. So, what’s keeping the fans awake at night? The big updates from the recruiting trail. The young chaps are busing taking official visits, before they confirm their next home to kickstart their college chapter. Right now, an NFL legend’s son is stirring the pot. The Phoenix Brophy Prep three-star wide receiver sees the finish line in his recruitment. While the young chap is yet to finalize his next home, he carries with him his dad’s words. “My dad told me ‘You get what you put in.’” So, who is this player?

That’s none other than WR Devin Fitzgerald – son of the legendary NFL wideout Larry Fitzgerald. Having grown up seeing his dad, the former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver, the interest in football set in early for his son. Devin began his football journey when he was just about four years old. And just two years later, he started to play tackle football. However, little did Devin know that by the time he suited up for high school, he would own a household name when it comes to football in Arizona. It’s now time for him to make the giant leap. But Devin is in no mood to hurry. On May 16, STEEZO came up with an IG post. The caption read, “BREAKING: Class of 2026 4 ⭐️ WR Devin Fitzgerald ( @devinfitzgerald111 ) will announce his commitment July 5th he tells me.”

The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder has already locked in six official visits. UCLA between May 16-18, Clemson between May 30- June 1, Stanford between June 6-8. Then comes Notre Dame on June 13-15, followed by North Carolina between June 20-22. There still remains a place for his sixth visit, which is yet to be decided. Now is this the final list? Definitely not…

Devin’s recruitment is still very open. As per the reports, the Top 4 recruit in Arizona have a total of 35 offers in hand. Now, Devin was bound to fall into such a craze. The Brophy students might still remember Devin’s heroic feat against Williams Field High School. With a pass to the left side of the field, he reached up and pulled down the ball, leading his team to a win over the Black Hawks.

This play earned him Sports Illustrated’s National High School Play of the Week just days later. The rising junior turned heads by hauling in 52 catches for 720 yards, powering his squad to a strong 10-3 finish. This earned him big praise from the Brophy head coach, Jason Jewell. “Devin has developed into one of our top playmakers.” Now, amidst all this chase, who are the frontrunners?

Who is still in the game for the Devin Fitzgerald frenzy?

Back in April, On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons shared his take on Mission Devin Fitzgerald. “Two strong players are North Carolina and Stanford.” But based on what criteria is the young chap going to make the decision? “There is some buzz around the program in California, but the staff on the east coast with a lot of NFL experience has the Tar Heels in the mix. Michigan, UCLA, and others are in the mix too,” noted Simmons. Even though Notre Dame did not make it to Simmons’ list as Devin’s hot pursuers, Marcus Freeman has turned a deaf ear to the noise.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Devin Fitzgerald follow in his father's footsteps, or carve his own path in college football?

Have an interesting take?

While the Fighting Irish landed elite running back Javian Osborne, the head coach now wants to chase down Devin, who was handpicked for Nike’s elite ‘Next Ones’ combine in New Orleans. This has been a lifetime opportunity for the NFL legend’s son, surrounded by 31 top prospects and NFL Academy talent from Europe. So, Freeman did not wait for Devin to visit Indiana. Instead, his staff had hit the road.

On May 6, Mike Singer reported that Notre Dame receivers coach Mike Brown made a stop in Phoenix Brophy Prep, to be precise. Well, if not the Fighting Irish, who is next up in line to win Devin’s heart? Arizona State is also running the race. He had a great visit to Tempe, where he had a sit-down with ASU WRs coach Hines Ward. Post the meet-up, Devin was all smiles. “I’m grateful and excited to announce that I have received an offer from Arizona State University!” This would also ensure staying close to his home.
