Kudos to college football coaches! Even amidst the 2024 season, they never miss a chance to reel in fresh talent. Now it’s time for Alabama Crimson Tide HC Kalen DeBoer and Michigan Wolverines HC Sherrone Moore to lock horns. But what for? Well, for their four-star safety recruit. While back in July, Moore and Co. had managed to flip safety Ivan Taylor’s commitment from Notre Dame, the fresh commit is not going to hit the settle button anytime soon.

On the other hand, Alabama and DeBoer have entered the chat. And what makes the commitment so powerful? After all, he carries the football pedigree of his father who is a two-time Super Bowl champ.

Sherrone Moore’s recruiting win goes awry

While doubts ran high in Ann Arbor, with Moore filling Jim Harbaugh’s shoes, the new HC got a huge breakthrough by pulling off one of its biggest commitment flips in the recent Wolverines’ history. They added none other than, four-star safety Ivan Taylor. Before that, the player was committed to Notre Dame for the 2025 class. To prove his hands at recruiting, Moore had to land someone big and went with the 6-foot and 175-pound product from Winter Garden.

Going by the rankings, Ivan is ranked as the No. 8 player in the Sunshine State. More than that, he bears the famous last name, Taylor. No brownie points for guessing, he is the son of the former NFL cornerback and the 2X Super Bowl winner, Ike Taylor.

Football fans still remember the Pittsburgh Steelers legend who came up with 134 pass breakups and 14 interceptions between 2003 and 2014. Just when Moore thought to have hit a jackpot with Ivan, the athlete decided to explore more options. This time he will be gracing the Tuscaloosa hood. To drop a spoiler alert, looks like DeBoer’s odds are higher.

Ivan Taylor’s Tuscaloosa temptation

Even before Ivan committed to Moore’s Wolverines in July, he had already stepped into Crimson Tide. In between June 7 and June 9, he had been in T-town for a spring practice visit. Shortly after that, he flipped his commitment from Fighting Irish. But that doesn’t mean that DeBoer has moved on from Ivan. Not only Kalen DeBoer, but Coach Colin Hitschler, Coach Courtney Morgan, and Coach Kevin Green have constantly been in touch with the four-star CB.

This heart-to-heart connection that Crimson Tide has forged with Ivan could be a game-changer in swaying him away from Michigan. The player too agrees to the fact that Alabama will give him enough space to grow his skills. Yet another Courtney Morgan scheme paying off. The player revealed, “I talk with him every day as well. It’s good to talk with Coach Morgan. I have great conversations with him.”

Not only Coach Morgan, Coach Hitschler also stands top in Ivan Taylor’s list. While he admits that he “coaches hard,” the fact that Alabama DBs are soaring so high, he “must be doing something right.” Now Kalen DeBoer and Sherrone Moore will be on the edge until Ivan confirms his next stop.
