What’s the first thing that fans remember about the former Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter? The ear-to-ear grin. Back in college, he was a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. Hunter has been so carefree that he even pranked Deion Sanders by stealing his fishing boat. As he continued to have fun, he did hit certain speed bumps, which landed him in trouble.
For instance, his controversial remark on MLB star Shohei Ohtani. As a result, Hunter’s NFL Draft stock had hit a downward trend. However, the two-way phenom has overcome the tough times and landed as the No.2 pick with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Unfortunately, controversy followed him like a shadow in the pro league as well. And as usual, his haters finally got the chance to drag him through the mud once again.
No one balances out his professional and personal life as smoothly as Hunter. In his off-time, the ex-Buffs player is either taking dreamy getaways with fiancée Leanna Lenee, pampering her with a Hello Kitty-themed Tesla Model X valued at $130,740, or vibing to matching onesies. Or he is gifting Deion with a brand new fishing kit while competing with Coach Prime about whose fish bucket weighs heavier. But at the same time, he took care of what his career demands. In the 2024 season, in Boulder, he had achieved a massive glowup, coming up with 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns and 1,263 yards in total. And with this, he could not have attained any sweeter ending to his college football career.

Hunter wrapped it up by lifting the Heisman Trophy. So, it was obvious that he would land it big in the pro league. However, in no way was Jacksonville in the picture as the Cleveland Browns were projected to land the ex-Buffs star. If one had followed general manager James Gladstone, they might have noted some of his favorite phrases- “intangibly rich,” “deeper alignment,” “pure collaboration,” and so on. To check on all the boxes, they went to great lengths as they found Hunter coming off as the best package. So, the Jaguars traded up three spots to select two-way Colorado star Hunter at No. 2. Just when Hunter might have thought of basking in this celeb treatment, the dual-threat got tangled in another controversy.
Quite likely of Hunter, he does not invest much time in downplaying his emotions and feelings. He acts impromptu, talks what comes to his mind. He has only one goal: to live life king-size. On May 7, MLFootball posted a video on X. The caption read, “TRENDING: #JAGUARS DRAFT PICK TRAVIS HUNTER FLEXING HIS STACKS OF HUNDRED DOLLAR BILLS HAS GONE VIRAL.”

In the video, he is seen donning a pink colored hoodie, sitting on a revolving chair, and vibing to a rap. Till this, all seemed fine. But he is also spotted flashing dollar notes, and not just one or two. He got a stack of cash. This is something that did not sit well with the fans, as they tapped into ‘roasting’ mode.

Travis Hunter’s off-field moves raise fans’ eyebrows
Eric Edholm of NFL Media has Jacksonville moving one spot in his post-draft power ranking. Here came the bad news. The Jaguars went from the 30th spot to the 29th. So, they are still at the bottom of the league. In that way, Hunter’s talent is likely to fall short. Now that instead of honing his skills, he is into having fun made a fan came with a brutal reality check. “This guy is off to a horrible start to his nfl career. Somebody please tell him what NFL stands for.”

Going by the reports, Hunter has signed a four-year contract worth approximately $46.5 million and containing a $30.5 million signing bonus. The fact that Jacksonville has risked its lump-sum fortune on the ex-Buffs player already has heated up his seat. But now, after securing his spot, he is making videos. This left a fan way too upset: “I’ve never rooted for someone to be a bust, but hope he will.”

Jaguars’ desperation to land Hunter was real. So much so, they had to make some great sacrifices by letting go of their second-round pick, a fourth-round pick, and a 2026 first-round pick. As the video went viral, this might have come off as a non-serious demeanor from someone who is committed to the pro league. An exasperated fan thus commented, coining a new name, “They traded up for him!!! Jamarcuss Russel 2.0!!”

Another fan comes up with a ‘What if’ scenario. We have all seen how Shedeur Sanders’ off-field shenanigans, like rapping, tagged him as a ‘red flag’. The former Buffs quarterback went off as the Round 5 pick. So, the fan shared how Hunter has been fortunate enough to have not to attract his teammate’s fate. “Oh boy. He’s lucky he didn’t stay another year at Colorado, or he’d be a 5th round pick in ‘26 with these antics. No? Oh, I didn’t think so.” The Colorado two-way phenom then got compared to the Jaguars’ 2024 No.116 pick, defensive tackle Jordan Jefferson, who was landed in Round 4. A fan commented, “Jefferson would never.”
So, is Travis Hunter ready to trade the fun for the NFL’s fierce focus?
