Another mistake being a blessing in-disguise story. No, this time isn’t about college football programs gaining an undue advantage on losing. This time it’s about Colorado Buffaloes dual-threat Travis Hunter. Hunter and mistake? This might make you go like ‘What, really!?’ But that’s something that the new Heisman winner’s mother, Ferrante Edmonds, addressed her son as. Maybe that’s what the story of the legends’ mothers looks like. Hunter’s mother joins the list of Golden State Warriors Point Guard Steph Curry’s mother and soccer GOAT Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother.
Mothers are one’s biggest supporters. Well, it has always been this way. It was time for Hunter to pay back his mother for the efforts she has put into making Hunter what he is today. Now, we know parents’ favors can’t be repaid. But at least they could be made to feel special. That’s what Hunter did by winning the much-awaited bronze trophy, the Heisman. So obviously Edmonds could celebrate the big day for what she had been waiting for so long. It was time for her speech and that’s when she revealed something intriguing. On national television, Hunter’s mother confessed, “I love the person that he is, but I’m also grateful because what they said was my biggest mistake turned out to be my biggest blessing.”

She further added, “So that just goes to show you, you can make mistakes but that does not define who you are and I’m so excited for him.” Well, we don’t know the story behind what made Edmonds call her son a mistake. But what we know is that this subtly places Hunter beside other legends who too were tagged as “mistakes.”
One is Curry whose mother, Sonya, reportedly tried to abort the basketball legend 34 years ago. She once stated how she was on her way to a Planned Parenthood clinic when she felt the Holy Spirit’s intervention. She then claimed, “God had a plan for that child.” Same goes for Ronaldo’s mother, Maria Dolores. In the documentary called Ronaldo, Dolores admitted, “He is a child that I wanted to abort.” Well Hunter has still a long way to go to reach legends like Ronaldo and Curry, but to his mother he is already a legend.

How Travis Hunter made her mother feel special
This year, probably, Edmonds got the best birthday gift of her lifetime. Often known to surprise his fans and family alike for his gridiron skills, this time Hunter took his off-filed wooing game a notch higher. That’s when the Buffs dual-threat thought of wooing his mother on her special day. Enough of luxury bags and serene vacations, Hunter came up with a not-so-typical birthday gift. So what was the gift?
A five-bedroom villa one and only for Edmonds. The lavish property is situated 1,667 miles away from their home in Boulder. He ensured to capture the special moments and later posted them on his YouTube channel. That feeling of pride and satisfaction echoed in Hunter’s voice. He said, “We just got some great news and a great update. I just we just got my mama house and today is her birthday which is crazy February 23rd.”

Well, why house as a gift all of a sudden? That’s because the Buffs dual-threat wanted to spend more time with her mother, bringing her close to the Buffs camp where Travis Hunter has been based. “We don’t have to make two trips every time we go to visit and it’s much easier for us and I can also fish a lot,” shared Colorado’s two-way star. That’s when you know some mistakes are good.
