When it’s college football, you know how you will not run out of surprises. And as the 2024 kickoff draws closer to the end, the surprise quotient is getting 10x. Buckle up, folks! It’s now time for some Hollywood x college football collab. You can now call the Call Me by Your Name actor by his latest gig. That’s $25 million star Timothée Chalamet, who now gets to add “football analyst” to his resume. How lucky he must have been! Well, not everyone gets the opportunity to be picked as ESPN’s College GameDay guest picker. Now, that’s some good news for Hollywood fans. But what about the college football fans? Well, here’s some heads up for you as your favorite GOAT Nick Saban and Pat McAfee, were left feeling like novices in front of Chalamet.

Remember the cute and chirpy Gatsby Welles from A Rainy Day in New York? Yes, that’s him now who strayed from his artsy persona and stepped into the world of college football. On Saturday, December 7, Chalamet was spotted sharing the seat amidst stalwarts like Saban, McAfee, Rece Davis, and others on College GameDay, picking his winners for the packed weekend with conference championship games. He might be just 28 years old and is set to star in Bob Dylan’s biopic, A Complete Unknown, but his conviction and passion for the game were evident from his commentary. Do you know the Dune star was the only one to predict that the Ohio Bobcats would defeat the Miami (OH) RedHawks?

Chalamet predicted, “These teams are 2-2 in their last four matchups. I’m going underdog, Bobcats.” Yes, the legends present in the show, including Saban and McAfee, trusted the RedHawks as the winner. And we know what the result was, right? Ohio bagged a big 38-3 win against Miami OH. So, if you think that Chalamet being a Gen Y might have picked up some words here and there from college football to come off as cool, then you are mistaken!

The young chap seems to have some serious knowledge about the games that took place much before he was born. For instance, he predicted that SMU would defeat the Clemson Tigers. And as a reason stated, “It smells like the 1980s, folks.” For the most part of the episode, Saban was spotted sitting quietly with his hands crossed and probably amazed at Chalamet’s new side of a sports guru. Even though we are yet to get his reaction, someone already looks impressed with the Hollywood star.

It’s lights, camera, football time for Timothée Chalamet

As we know, it’s not a new thing to see new faces every weekend on College GameDay. But when this time, some non-sports personality held the chair as the celebrity guest picker, doubts started to pour in. After all, envisioning Chalamet beside the legends is something you won’t even imagine in your wildest dreams, right? But again, it’s college football folks! Every new day you get to know something absolutely mind-blowing.

This time it was Chalamet who broke the rigid presumptions of a Hollywood star being only about glamor and camera. Yes, it turned out that the young chap is brilliant with his knowledge and lingo about the sport. Maybe, his interest was shaped by another Hollywood star. We might guess that from his final choice for the SEC champ between the Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs, as he stated that he has to go with his “movie dad,” who is a big Longhorns fan. And guess who that is?

What’s your perspective on:

Did Timothée Chalamet just outshine Nick Saban on College GameDay, or was it beginner's luck?

Have an interesting take?

None other than Matthew McConaughey, who played Timothée Chalamet’s father in Interstellar. Well, this was enough to woo legendary host Kirk Herbstreit. He could not help but share a small review for their guest picker: “[Chalamet] was good on ‘GameDay,'” To which, his co-host Chris Fowler added, “I thought he brought some knowledge.” So now let’s see whether College GameDay will have one extra chair and you already know for whom!
