Shaquille O’Neal, fondly referred to as ‘Shaq’, is one of the most recognizable and dominant figures in the annals of professional basketball. Shaq was a dominant force on the court, standing at a towering 7 feet and weighing somewhere over 325 pounds during his playing days. His illustrious career in the NBA, which lasted over 20 years, from 1992 to 2011, had a profound impact on the game.

Notably, Shaquille O’Neal is a huge supporter of women’s basketball. He has two daughters following in his footsteps who aspire to be in the WNBA. Furthermore, when Angel Reese hit the spotlight with the LSU Lady Tigers, Shaquille O’Neal took a particular liking to her. However, having achieved what Shaq never could, his recent face-off with Angel Reese’s might have shaken the 7’0 legend.

Before starting his professional career, O’Neal played for the LSU Tigers for three illustrious years during his storied college career. He was the national rebounding leader in his sophomore season, recording an astounding 14.7 rebounds per game. He was one of the most dominant players in collegiate basketball with his shot-blocking skills and scoring abilities. Shaq’s influence went beyond numbers. He earned a reputation as a fan favorite thanks to his affable demeanor and imposing presence both on and off the court.

Shaq continued to dominate in his junior year, winning many honors, including the AP Player of the Year award. However, his outstanding college career came to an end in 1992 when he chose to forgo his final year and pursue the NBA Draft.

Reese was crucial in helping LSU win its first-ever NCAA women’s basketball title. Reese’s outstanding performance against Iowa, when she scored 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, was essential to LSU’s emphatic 102-85 victory. With remarkable averages of 23.3 points, 15.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks per game while maintaining an impressive 52.7% shooting percentage, she got the coveted Most Outstanding Player award for the competition.

However, during his three illustrious years at LSU, he never accomplished what Angel Reese did in her junior season – he never won a championship while playing for the LSU Tigers. And this might have shaken “uncle.”

Angel Reese pops a surprising question

Shaquille O’Neal was once asked if any player in the WNBA could beat him, 1×1. Shaq was quick and confident in answering, “No.” However, the same can’t be said about his 1×1 matchup with Angel Reese.

Angel Reese once had the opportunity to practice with Shaquille O’Neal at LSU. Reese jumped at the chance to challenge the legendary basketball player to a one-on-one match. She jokingly questioned, “You think you can beat me on one-on-one?” with a sly grin.
