If you are someone who regularly keeps up with Formula One and its news, you probably have the F1 official app downloaded on your phone. Consumers of the app usually find race reminders or breaking news pop up on their notification bars. However, on Saturday, that wasn’t the case. A very confusing “foo” followed by a sly, “Hmmm, I should check my security.. :)” was a part of the app’s push notifications.

The F1 community was quick with the memes and the tweets. The simplicity and redundancy of the word ‘foo’ took everybody by storm. Many question the hacker’s vast field of possibilities of what they could have put up but stuck to something as stupidly funny as ‘foo’.

Formula one confirmed their systems had been breached and that they have begun an immediate review of their services. F1 released a statement, “Formula 1 became aware of an incident where the F1 App Push Notification Service had been compromised. We immediately took actions to suspend and secure the service and review the security procedures in place.”

They also reassured users that no personal data had been leaked because of the hack.

The last F1 leg of the triple-header

Everyone is back again at the Red Bull Ring in Austria for the culmination of the season’s triple-header. Max Verstappen has won the last two races and is looking to drink the victor’s champagne this Sunday as well. The Red Bull has shown a promising pace and may lead to a hat-trick for the Dutchman. In other exciting news, Lando Norris joined Verstappen in the front row, as he missed out on a maiden pole by just 0.048s.

The second raging bull has started P3, as Sergio Perez holds back the two Mercedes behind him. Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton may not be too happy about his position in the starting grid and will surely push forward with all he’s got.

The 2021 season has given us some exciting races so far, and by throwing in the Papaya in the mix, the race is bound to be competitive. Or, in other words, foo.
