It didn’t take long for the Chargers to fire HC, Brandon Staley. After the horrendous loss of 63-21 at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders, the Los Angeles Chargers had no reason to hesitate in firing the HC. With a record of 5-9 this season, they have eliminated any real chances to fight for the playoffs. But what of the future?

With just a few weeks to go in this season, it is safe to assume that the Chargers will be looking for a permanent replacement after the end of this season. There’s a possibility that other coaches would be available for the job in the future. Such as Bill Belichick, who himself might be out of the job. But looking at the field and the requirements for the Chargers team, here are a few candidates.

Brandon Staley to be replaced

The Chargers under the tactics of Staley have suffered on both sides of the field. Their latest game against the Raiders is a prime example, letting the opponent score freely while not scoring the amount needed. A complete change of philosophy is needed at the Chargers and here are the top three candidates who can achieve the goal.

Aaron Glenn

Aaron Glenn, the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, has been impressing with his performances. The 51-year-old played 15 seasons in the NFL as a CB and was praised for his leadership, intelligence, and defensive acumen. Exactly the qualities he has displayed at the Lions and the skills that the Chargers would desperately need in 2024.

Frank Smith

One of the hottest names in the coaching world right now. Frank Smith is the Offensive coordinator for the explosive Miami Dolphins. The Chargers will find a familiar face in Smith as he served as the team’s run game coordinator and offensive line coach in 2021. Considered a nerd in the departments of analytics and game planning, the 42-year-old is bound to shape the Chargers into a fabulous team within a season.

Mike Macdonald

Mike Macdonald, defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, is widely regarded as one of the best defensive minds in the NFL. The 36-year-old helped transform the Ravens’ defense into one of the most dominant units in recent years. He brings discipline and commitment to the table, something which the Chargers squad has shown to be lacking this season.
