The Denver Broncos might’ve just pulled off their biggest win since Super Bowl 50, shocking the Philadelphia Eagles 21-17 at Lincoln Financial Field. And the headline writes itself: Bo Nix and the Broncos rallied from a 14-point hole in the fourth quarter to take down the defending Super Bowl champs, all after stumbling out of the gate with a sluggish start.

Fast forward to now, and the second-year quarterback just addressed how he bounced back from a slow start.
“It’s just, I guess I played a lot of football, been in a lot of situations where things start well, things don’t start well, seen about it all at this point, and our defense just continued to make a stop,” Nix said.

“So, we just kind of had some life there at the end of the game. And we just kept chipping away, found things that worked, and eventually put some touchdown drives together. And it’s tough to win games like that, so it’s good to get out of there.” Indeed!

Nix has played a lot of football in his career. The Oregon product spent five years in college before breaking the Broncos’ postseason curse in his rookie season. Fast forward to now, and the quarterback just pulled off a stunner against the Eagles to give Denver a 3-2 lead.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves: The Broncos indeed overcame a sluggish start. Heading into the fourth quarter, Denver was trailing 17-3 after punting on seven of their eight drives. The only scoring instance was a 12-play, 32-yard field-goal drive in the first quarter.
Their 21-17 win in Philly was just the second time in 114 road games that they’ve come back from 14-plus points down entering the fourth quarter. The only other instance? Week 4 of 2023, when they erased a 28-14 deficit to edge the Chicago Bears 31-28. However, the narrative shifted in the fourth quarter.
Nix led a couple of touchdown drives in the fourth, the second of which ended with a 2-point conversion. “After the 2-point (try), we just got some great momentum and we just played with that for the rest of the game,” Nix said after the game.
Denver scored 18 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. In the process, Bo Nix was 9 for 10 for 126 yards and a touchdown. Overall, the second-year signal-caller completed 24-of-39 passes for 242 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 22 yards on 3 carries. From there, the Broncos’ defense shut down the Eagles on their final drive.
Final score: 21-17 in the Broncos’ favor. And Nix knows who to give the credit for the win.
Bo Nix believes his WR1 took over the game against the Eagles
In the Broncos’ decisive win over the Eagles, Courtland Sutton was the engine of the comeback: Reliable chain-mover, third-down killer, and the big-play getter on the decisive fourth-quarter drive. Which is exactly why Bo Nix gives his wideout a special credit in the 21-17 win.
“I think when things get tough, he (Sutton) gets better,” Nix said. “And just like on Sunday, the game didn’t go how we wanted early, but we just continued to chip away, find catches as the game went. And next thing you know, it felt like he took the game over, and he was getting better and better as the game was going on. He was getting tougher to guard as the game was going.”

Sutton caught eight receptions for 99 yards. The wideout was a third-down savior, as four of his eight catches resulted in third-down conversions for Denver. And during the go-ahead drive in the fourth quarter, Nix hit Sutton for a 34-yard pickup, which flipped field position and set up the 11-yard Evan Engram TD that finished the comeback.
So when Nix says that Sutton was getting better and better, let’s just say the quarterback has multiple reasons to back up his statement.
