There’s trouble in Cleveland. The Cleveland Browns are struggling with a 2-6 record, and people are looking for someone to blame. The team’s problems come from bad decisions on who to put on the roster and poor performance during games. Now, it seems Head Coach Kevin Stefanski has lost some of his control, especially when it comes to picking the starting quarterback. Local radio hosts Anthony Lima and Ken Carman from 92.3 The Fan recently discussed the situation, suggesting that General Manager Andrew Berry is gaining more power than Stefanski, especially with the quarterback decision.

“I don’t think (Stefanski) is on equal footing as Andrew Berry. He hasn’t lost power but Andrew Berry has gained it and I think that’s a detriment to the team.”

Talking about the QB decision, it mainly revolves around two Browns players drafted in the year 2025, one is Dillon Gabriel, whom Kevin Stefanski has constantly supported, and the second is Shedeur Sanders, whom the Browns fans have wanted the coach to give a chance. Irrespective of Stefanski having Gabriel’s back, the results he has yielded for the team are not good.

Stefanski has faced criticism for his play-calling and game decisions, and his loyalty to Gabriel, despite the poor results, adds to the belief that he’s no longer the one with the final say on the most important position on the team.

In his four starts, Gabriel has only one win, which was mostly thanks to the team’s strong running game. Throughout the season, he has thrown 702 yards, five touchdowns, and just two interceptions, which is still worrisome for the team. Still, Stefanski keeps giving him chances, which has led to major criticism. Now, what about his stance on Shedeur Sanders’ future in the team?

Where does Kevin Stefanski stand with making Shedeur Sanders the Browns’ QB2?

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been dealing with a back issue since week 8, even though he hasn’t played in a real game yet. This situation has made people wonder who will be the main backup for the current starting rookie, Dillon Gabriel. On Thursday, there was a positive update about Sanders’ condition. Browns expert and beat writer Mary Kay Cabot shared what she saw at practice during a call on 92.3 The Fan.

“I watched him throw the ball yesterday and move through practice in the early part when we’re allowed out there,” she said. “He was upbeat; he was dancing between reps like he always does. He brings sort of a light vibe to practice all the time. And he looked like himself to me. He didn’t look to be in any pain.”

However, despite the positive outlook from practice, Coach Kevin Stefanski is staying cautious. He has said that Sanders will still be on a limited practice schedule for now. The coach also made it clear that Sanders will only be named the backup quarterback (QB2) if he responds well to practice over the next few days. This means that fans hoping to see Sanders as the next quarterback up will likely have to wait a few more weeks.

If Sanders is not ready to be the backup, the Browns might turn to another quarterback on the roster. According to beat writer Mary Kay Cabot, the team could decide to use Bailey Zappe as the temporary QB2, as they face the New York Jets in week 10.
