The Cleveland Browns finally notched their second win of the season. To get there, they had to trade Joe Flacco to their division rivals, hand Dillon Gabriel the keys to lead the offense, and make a few roster tweaks. The team looked good overall: the offense was clicking, the defense stayed dominant, and the Browns mostly avoided penalties.

But despite a dominant 31-6 Week 7 win over the Miami Dolphins, the Browns’ head coach, Kevin Stefanski, faced criticism for not giving Shedeur Sanders a shot to play. Late in the fourth quarter, Cleveland looked poised to win, and the Colorado Buffaloes’ product was reportedly warming on the sidelines. However, the head coach decided to stick with his decision not to bench Gabriel.

And let’s just say, Stefanski’s choice to keep Sanders off the field didn’t sit well with Browns fans. The team was cruising at 31-6 with only a few minutes left. But instead of giving Gabriel a rest and letting Shedeur get some reps, Stefanski passed up the chance to let the young QB taste real NFL action.
The Dolphins, meanwhile, looked like they didn’t even want to be on the field. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa struggled once again, prompting head coach Mike McDaniel to bench him in favor of rookie Quinn Ewers. Right after that move, NFL analyst Skip Bayless suggested the Browns take a page from Miami’s playbook. Bayless argued that Sanders could be the solution to Cleveland’s issues.

“If Shedeur Sanders, with that Browns defense and the emergence of Judkins slashing and gashing, had started at QB from the start, as he should have, the Browns would be the Vanderbilt of the North,” Bayless shared on his ‘X’ handle.
While Shedeur didn’t get an opportunity, Gabriel, on the other hand, completed 13-of-18 passes for 116 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. In the process, the rookie quarterback recorded his first NFL win. Quinshon Judkins put up another strong outing, as the running back rushed for 84 yards on 25 carries and racked up three touchdowns. Still, during the final moments of the game, the Browns’ faithful had just one wish.

“We want Sanders”: The Browns’ fans cleared their demands for Kevin Stefanski
Kevin Stefanski could’ve easily thrown Shedeur Sanders in late in the game. Sure, the Browns’ offense has been sitting near the basement this season, according to Pro Football Network, but they actually looked solid against the Dolphins. Add to that, Cleveland’s defense has been the best in the league.

And if we develop the narrative, the 23-year-old QB had already turned heads earlier in the offseason and preseason… well, except for that preseason finale, of course. Still, Stefanski chose not to test Shedeur’s potential. And you could feel the frustration among the Browns’ faithful.
With less than five minutes remaining in the game, the Dolphins sacked Gabriel, when everyone expected Shedeur to get a chance to play. The crowd started chanting, “We want Sanders,” and the social media did the rest of the work. “Free Shedeur Sanders please,” one person wrote, who was joined by the others who echoed the sentiment, “The crowd is chanting, ‘We want Sanders.”
The signs were clear: Cleveland wanted to see Shedeur Sanders getting some meaningful minutes under center. But Kevin Stefanski decided against it.
