Shedeur Sanders and his selection to the Cleveland Browns? Talk about a more thrilling story. Before the draft, Sanders showed up at the East-West Shrine Bowl, but here’s the twist—he’s not practicing or playing. Instead, he’s just chilling, meeting with teams. The rumor mill goes wild, suggesting the Browns, Titans, and Giants asked him to sit out to avoid looking bad ahead of the 2025 NFL draft.

The draft came and left us with too many questions about Sanders’ draft stock. But amidst this drama, the plot thickened over Cleveland’s decision to pick Coach Prime’s kid. The Browns scooped him up with the 144th overall pick, and all of a sudden, the rumor mill was buzzing that the team’s owner, Jimmy Haslam, was the one scribbling names on the Browns’ draft card. And yeah, not the general manager, Andrew Berry.

But Berry wasn’t sugarcoating it. Berry recently stopped by 92.3 The Fan, where he discussed Sanders’ rookie season. When asked if these noises around the decision to pick Shedeur annoy him, Berry straight-up admitted that he isn’t paying attention to them while praising Shedeur Sanders and addressing his role in the team’s QB room. “No. I don’t really pay any attention to any of that,” Berry said.

“I mean, we’re super excited to have him, you know, we spent a lot of time with him in the process. He’s a good kid. He’s talented, you know, we were surprised that he was available at 144, and we’re excited to add him to the room. But he’s got to compete and earn a role just like Dillon, Kenny, Joe…I don’t really care about the narratives. And so we’re excited to see that competition because we do have a number of players in that room that we have a level of belief in.”

Ahead of the NFL draft, the Browns filled their QB room by signing the veteran Joe Flacco and trading for Kenny Pickett, with Deshaun Watson already on the roster. To add depth, Cleveland didn’t shy away from addressing their QB needs in the draft as well. Sanders’ name came and went multiple times, but the Browns picked Dillon Gabriel with the 94th pick.

Then came the fifth round, and when they saw a potential QB still available, Berry and Co. didn’t wait for a tiny moment to trade up and snagged Shedeur Sanders. Now, if we round all that up,  the Browns QB room has Flacco, Pickett, Gabriel, Sanders, and Watson with an uncertainty to return ahead of week 1. That said, the questions are rising: where does Shedeur fit in Cleveland’s QB room?

See, for the time being, it’s pretty much certain that Coach Kevin Stefanski would go ahead with Flacco as their starting QB. As for Shedeur and Gabriel, both of ’em are currently participating in the Browns’ rookie mini-camp. Safe to say both rookies will be fighting all summer to make their way to the 53-man roster. In Berry’s words? Shedeur Sanders will have to compete and earn a role on the team. Plain and simple.

On the flip side, it seems like Andrew Berry just gave his verdict on the team’s veteran running back.

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Browns' owner influence Shedeur Sanders' draft pick, or did GM Andrew Berry see hidden talent?

Nick Chubb is unlikely to return to Cleveland

Nick Chubb doesn’t say much, but when he went down in Pittsburgh—same knee from Georgia, same silence—you kinda knew. Torn MCL, messed-up ACL, season over just like that. Months later, he quietly grinded through rehab, then slipped back onto the field in October 2024, scored in his return, and looked like himself again. “They’ve already wrote my ending when I’m just getting started,” Chubb declared. Too soon? You can say that.

Fast forward to the 2024 season, and the running back broke his foot in a week 15 showdown against the Chiefs. And just like that, his 2024 season was over as well. Or should we say, his time in Cleveland was over? Why? Well, after spending 7 seasons with the Browns, it seems like Chubb might not return to Cleveland. And while talking on 92.3 The Fan, Andrew Berry kind of confirmed it.

“I wouldn’t rule anything out, but I would say that it’s probably increasingly unlikely,” Berry told 92.3 The Fan about Chubb’s returnWe do have two young guys that we liked. We think Jerome [Ford] plays a role. It’s basically kind of maybe seeing how the roles shake out in the running back room,” Though Chubb has recovered from his knee injury but the Browns drafted a couple of running backs two weeks ago in Green Bay.

They picked Ohio State’s Quinshon Judkins in the second round of the draft and Tennessee’s Dylan Sampson in the fourth round. “You’re never going to rule out someone as near and dear to our heart as Nick, and I would expect him to take another step being a year removed from the knee injury. But I’d say a return is less likely, at least in the short term, with us right now.”

All in all, Berry has been in contact with Chubb, no doubt. But given the Browns have drafted two RBs and there’s too much uncertainty over Chubb’s injuries, it’s likely the team would go ahead without Chubb in the 2025 season.
