The Arizona Cardinals’ current regime—general manager Monti Ossenfort and head coach Jonathan Gannon— is staring down the barrel of missing the postseason for the third straight year since taking over. And that naturally raises a big question: could they really decide to move on from Kyler Murray, their franchise quarterback who’s locked in through 2028?

For the time being, Murray is dealing with a foot injury. That said, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk believes that the Cardinals might not trade their quarterback ahead of the November 4 trade deadline.

However, there’s a possibility that the new regime could part ways with him in the offseason, per Florio. The analyst’s reasoning is pretty simple. For starters, the quarterback might be looking for a trade despite not having a no-trade clause and his contract being too complicated.

Additionally, there’s also some tension between Murray and the Cardinals, which started with that infamous “homework clause” in his 2022 contract (where he was required to study film for a set number of hours per week).

Third, Florio pointed out that the Cardinals’ current regime didn’t draft Kyler Murray. They didn’t offer him his five-year, $230.5 million contract extension. And yes, they’re yet to draft their own quarterback. Long story short: while he won’t be traded this season, Florio thinks an offseason trade is very possible, maybe even likely.

After all, the Cardinals are sitting at 2-5 heading into their Week 9 clash with the Dallas Cowboys. And if they miss the playoffs again (which seems pretty likely), the front office might just see that as the perfect excuse to hit reset and find a new QB.

Plus, there is a good chance several teams, like the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, and maybe a couple more, will be in the market for a quarterback next year. And yes, according to Florio, one of them could easily take a swing at Kyler Murray.

Kyler Murray is questionable against the Cowboys

Ahead of the Week 9 matchup, Kyler Murray is dealing with a foot injury. Consequently, he has missed the last couple of games for the Cardinals. In his absence, Jacoby Brissett stepped up and ran the offense for Arizona. Fast forward to now, and the team has announced that Brissett will be the starting quarterback for the Cardinals. He’ll line up under the center for a third straight game.

“Everyone is different,” Coach Gannon said. “Every player, every injury is unique. (Kyler’s) been pushing, we’ve been pushing. He is getting better and he’s had more work this week. I know he wants to be out there and is doing everything he can.”

The head coach also explained that Murray could “possibly” have a role against Dallas. However, just a few hours before the game, reports are suggesting that Murray is questionable for the Monday Night Football at AT&T Stadium. For the time being, Murray’s return timeline is still uncertain.
