Heading into Week 6, the Kansas City Chiefs were desperate to bounce back after that rough 31-28 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. And they did just that, handing the Detroit Lions a 30-17 reality check. The Sunday night surely included some drama when the Lions’ safety Brian Branch took a cheap shot at the Chiefs’ wide receiver, JuJu Smith-Schuster, smacking him in the facemask.

Not exactly the classy way to wrap things up. But when all was said and done, it was the Chiefs walking off the field smiling, thanks to several offensive contributors. And one of them was the Chiefs’ center, Creed Humphrey. And he knows how to celebrate the victory.
A few moments after Humphrey and his mates walked out of Arrowhead, the center took to his Instagram handle and made one thing clear: The Chiefs have conquered Jared Goff and the Lions. “Lion taming,” the 26-year-old center captioned the post. And they sure did. Humphrey was efficient throughout the game and once again proved why he’s one of the best centers in the league.

That is exactly why the PFF noticed his performance. According to PFF, Humphrey had a 72.8 overall grade. But it was his 83.5 pass blocking grade and 68.4 run blocking grade that actually made him stand out more than the rest of the contributors, including the quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

The overall offense clicked as well. KC piled up 355 total yards, with 243 coming through the air and 112 on the ground. Mahomes completed 22-of-30 passes for 257 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. If we take a look at the passing game, Travis Kelce stood out among the others.
The veteran tight end complemented Smith-Schuster (3 receptions for 57 yards) and led the passing game with 6 receptions for 78 yards. The rushing attack? Isiah Pacheco and Mahomes carried the ball efficiently. The RB-QB duo rushed for 51 yards on 12 carries and 32 yards on 12 carries, respectively.
So yes, when Creed Humphrey captioned his post, “Lion taming,” let’s just say the 26-year-old has a lot to back up his statement. However, the Week 6 win came with a brutal punch for the Chiefs’ wideout.

"Did Brian Branch's cheap shot tarnish the Lions' reputation, or is it just part of the game?"

Brian Branch got what was expected
The Chiefs-Lions Week 6 matchup had its fair share of drama…Well, not during the game, but right after it. That’s when things got heated, and a little scuffle broke out between the players. It all started when Mahomes attempted to give a high-five to Brian Branch.
Instead, the Lions’ safety just walked right past him. Smith-Schuster didn’t take that too well, went up to Branch to have a few words, and that’s when Branch swung and knocked him to the ground. Later, the Lions and the league were expected to fine or suspend Branch for his controversial actions. And they just did that.
Per ESPN, the league has suspended Branch for one game without pay for unsportsmanlike conduct. “Your aggressive, non-football act was entirely unwarranted, posed a serious risk of injury, and clearly violated the standards of conduct and sportsmanship expected of NFL players,” NFL vice president of football operations Jon Runyan wrote in a letter to Branch. “Your conduct reflected poorly on the NFL and has no place in our game.”
Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Branch is now expected to appeal the league’s decision. The appeal would be heard by a hearing officer appointed by both the NFL and the NFLPA. “It was a childish thing, but I’m tired of people doing stuff in between the play and refs don’t catch it,” Branch said after the game. “They be trying to bully me out there. I should have never did it. It was childish.
Fast forward, and that childish thing just handed him a one-game suspension. He’s now set to miss out on the Week 7 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Monday. That said, he’ll be eligible to join the active roster the very next day onwards.
