The Kansas City Chiefs have a young core at wide receiver with Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Tyquan Thornton. But when you look closer, there are question marks across the board. Between inconsistent usage, injuries, and off-field concerns, none of the three feels like a completely stable option right now. That’s where adding a veteran starts to make sense. Naturally, some will point to a reunion with Tyreek Hill. But if Andy Reid doesn’t want to revisit that route, another name has started to surface.

John Breech of CBS Sports recently pointed to Kansas City as a potential landing spot for veteran WR Odell Beckham Jr.
“If Andy Reid wants to add a veteran receiver to his roster, this would be his chance to do it. The team could look to reunite with Tyreek Hill, but if Reid doesn’t want to go that route, then the Chiefs should definitely look at Beckham.”
Now, Beckham hasn’t been on an NFL field in over a year. His last appearance came in December 2024 with the Miami Dolphins, where he caught just one pass. He finished that season with nine receptions for 55 yards, then spent the entire 2025 season unsigned while also serving a six-game suspension. Still, that doesn’t mean he’s done. The 33-year-old has made it clear he wants to return in 2026.

“Looking forward to hopefully getting an opportunity to play this year and this is kind of just the starting point,” Beckham said in a conversation with Kay Adams.

He even gave a glimpse of that recently at the Fanatics Flag Football Classic, where he pulled in a one-handed catch in the back of the end zone while double-covered. It was a small moment, but enough to show there’s still something there.
At the same time, Kansas City isn’t the only team to watch. The New York Giants, where Beckham began his career, have also been loosely linked to a reunion. At the league meeting, John Harbaugh hinted as much.
“The obvious pat answer would be you look at every option, and if Odell is an option, we’ll be looking at him for sure.”
So the situation remains open. Beckham wants back in. The Giants could revisit the past. And the Chiefs, given their current uncertainty at wide receiver, have a clear reason to consider adding a veteran presence.
Because right now, beyond Rice, who is still dealing with off-field issues, there isn’t much reliability. Thornton had just 19 receptions last season, and Worthy finished with 44 catches for 532 yards while missing three games. If Kansas City wants more stability in that room, bringing in someone experienced might not just be an option; it might be necessary.
Rashee Rice found himself in off-field issues again
Rashee Rice had already missed the first six games of the 2025 season after violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Now, there’s a chance a similar situation could develop heading into 2026. According to reports, the Chiefs receiver has been accused of physical a–ault by his former girlfriend and the mother of his two children, Dacoda Jones.
Jones has filed a lawsuit in Dallas County seeking $1 million in damages. The complaint alleges that Rice a–aulted her repeatedly over a period spanning from December 2023 through July 2025, resulting in severe and permanent injuries.
The filing also claims that Rice strangled Jones at their shared home in Victory Park, Texas, in December 2023 and that the alleged abuse continued throughout their relationship, including during her pregnancy. Additional accusations include throwing objects, damaging property, and locking her out of their home at night.
Rice, through his attorney Sean Lindsey, has pushed back on those claims.
“On October 9th, 2025, well after the parties’ relationship had ended, Ms. Jones stated under penalty of perjury in a sworn Affidavit for Non-Prosecution that ‘Mr. Rice and I had a verbal argument, but he did not punch me.’ We will allow the legal process to run its course and have no further comment at this time.”
While Jones did not name Rice directly in her social media posts, she shared images showing a bloody lip along with scratches and bruises. The Chiefs have acknowledged the situation, stating they are aware of the lawsuit.
At this point, the legal process is still unfolding. What it ultimately means for Rice’s availability and future with Kansas City heading into the 2026 season remains uncertain.
