A 38-14 loss against the Seattle Seahawks was just a part of the overall misery for the Washington Commanders on Sunday. After all, their starting quarterback, Jayden Daniels, went down due to another injury after completing 16-of-22 passes for 153 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception.

Fast forward to now, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport dropped a concerning update on the second-year QB. According to him, Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow and will undergo an MRI to figure out how long he’ll be out. The good news? Rapoport mentioned it’s not as serious as it could’ve been.

That said, he also added that Daniels is still expected to miss a few games, but also provided a slight silver lining, noting that the X-rays on Daniels’ left arm came back negative. That’s a small but welcome relief. For the time being, Daniels is sidelined indefinitely, but it’s still unclear whether his season is over or not, considering the injury occurred on his non-throwing arm.

The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year went down when the Commanders were trailing 38-7 in the fourth quarter with less than eight minutes remaining in the game. He scrambled to his right but got brought down at the Seattle 4-yard line by Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas. During the tackle, his left elbow bent awkwardly backward, and he was clearly in visible pain right after.

“I’m gutted by it,” the Commanders’ head coach, Dan Quinn, said after the game.

While the HC didn’t give any update on his injury at that time, it was clearly visible that the quarterback went down in pain. His teammates immediately knelt beside him as the cart was brought out. However, the second-year QB showed toughness, walking to the locker room on his own with a black air cast on his non-throwing elbow.

“Gut-wrenching,” Washington’s right guard Sam Cosmi said. “You could just hear the air [come] out of everybody in the stadium. Not a good feeling to see that for sure. It really sucks. I put my head down and prayed for him. You don’t want to see that. … That’s our guy. It sucks.”

Dan Quinn on why he didn’t pull Jayden Daniels out of the game

Jayden Daniels didn’t have a night to remember against the Seahawks. Not only did he fail to find the end zone, but Seattle’s defense kept him under constant pressure all game long. According to ESPN, the Seahawks pressured Daniels on a career-high 51% of his dropbacks, including 61% in the second half.

On top of that, he was hit 14 times per TruMedia, the second most this season, just behind the 17 hits he took back in Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers. To make things worse, he suffered an elbow injury in the fourth quarter as well.

Which naturally raised a question: Amidst all the chaos and Daniels’ struggles, why didn’t Coach Quinn pull Daniels out of the game in garbage time? After all, the Seahawks had already pulled Sam Darnold off the field. The HC explained the reasoning after the game.

“There was no discussion in leaving quarterback Jayden Daniels in the game,” Quinn said. “The hindsight, you don’t want to think that way, where injury could take place. You’re more conservative in that spot, running and handoffs and not have reads to go.”

But that didn’t stop the Commanders’ supporters from raising fingers at the head coach. After all, the second-year signal caller had already missed three games this season due to multiple injuries. For starters, he was sidelined in Weeks 3 and 4 due to a knee issue.

Fast forward to Week 8, and he missed another game due to a hamstring injury against the Kansas City Chiefs. That said, the Commanders are in a tough spot right now. They’re struggling to find wins, and their roster’s been hit hard with injuries across the board.
