Linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. is having a very eventful week. After signing with the Houston Texans‘ practice squad earlier this season, the team elevated the 27-year-old to line up against his former team, the Dallas Cowboys, and his former quarterback, Dak Prescott. And on the very first play, it’s safe to say that Murray managed to grab attention, especially from Prescott.

As the Texans host the Cowboys in Week 4, Murray delivered a late, questionable hit on Prescott during the first offensive play. The incident occurred after the Cowboys quarterback scrambled and slid on a rush. At the same time, however, no penalty flag was thrown on the play.
As that happened, Prescott got up immediately and started jawing with Murray, according to Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris. Fortunately, Prescott remained uninjured and stayed in the game.
The hit came in Kenneth Murray’s first game of the season after signing with the Texans in September. Before joining Houston, the 27-year-old LB spent four years with the Los Angeles Chargers and a brief stint with the Tennessee Titans before the Cowboys acquired him ahead of the 2025 season. In Dallas, Murray played all 17 games and started 16.
Throughout the season, he recorded 81 combined tackles, 38 solo tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and defended 2 passes. After joining the Texans, however, Murray remained on the practice squad through the first three weeks of the 2026 season.
But considering Houston was short at linebacker because Azeez Al-Shaair was inactive with a groin injury and Henry To’oTo’o was on injured reserve, it opened the door for Murray to start against the Cowboys. Subsequently, the Texans elevated him ahead of the Cowboys’ matchup.
Dak Prescott and Dallas, meanwhile, hit the road after a long trip to Brazil, where they narrowly lost to the Baltimore Ravens 34-31 in the final moments of the first NFL matchup in Rio.
Prescott finished the game 25-of-40 for 276 yards and one touchdown, as Dallas suffered its second loss of the season. Now sitting at 1-2, they’re looking to secure their second win of the season before heading home to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
