The 2025 season has definitely proven to be a rough start for the Dallas Cowboys‘ defense. Six weeks into the 2025 NFL season, and the team still stands last at a staggering 411.7 yards per game. That’s definitely not the “America’s Team” standard, and it’s got the fanbase screaming for a change.

Despite the mounting pressure to fire defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, team owner Jerry Jones is standing firm. He’s made it clear he still has faith in Eberflus to turn things around. Eberflus has finally responded to the criticism and beat reporter Joseph Hoyt shared his comments.

The defensive coordinator acknowledged the fans’ frustration, stating that he understands the disappointment about the way the team played last week. “It’s a we solution. Us doing it together. Obviously, we’re disappointed. It’s not to our standard how we played last week. We know the solution is in the room.” These were Eberflus’ words.

The defense for the Dallas Cowboys is in absolute chaos right now, and honestly, this isn’t new territory for them! Everyone is pointing to the massive, head-scratching move from the offseason: trading defensive superstar Micah Parsons to the Packers. Jerry Jones swore at the time that bringing in defensive tackle Kenny Clark would make their run defense better. But six weeks in? The defense has completely fallen apart, proving that the big gamble on the trade hasn’t paid off one bit. It looks worse every week.

Now, with the defense collapsing, the heat is intense. Patrick “No C” Walker, the Voice of the Star, highlighted the growing desperation by sharing defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus’s comments on X,

“You look at everything when the performance is not up to standard … nothing is off the table.”

Eberflus is reportedly going to great lengths, even outside his comfort zone, to improve the Cowboys’ defense. But one thing is certain: he won’t be fired. Jerry Jones clearly wants him in the foxhole, so don’t expect any changes in Dallas.

Stephen A. Smith believes “something’s wrong” with Jerry Jones for not making any change

The Dallas Cowboys are struggling, and the blame is falling squarely on the shoulders of the team’s defense and the man who refuses to acknowledge the problem: owner and general manager Jerry Jones. Jones, who just celebrated his 83rd birthday, has a long history of making controversial and bewildering decisions. His stubbornness has led ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith to question Jones openly.

In the Cowboys’ most recent loss, a 30-27 defeat to the Carolina Panthers that dropped their record to a disappointing 2-3-1, Jones made a statement so disconnected from reality that it prompted a blunt reaction from Smith. He said,

“We’ve got the most capable pass rushers that we’ve had. We’ve got the ability to really rotate our players, which is very important at pass rush because you exert more energy there than any place else. So, there’s ways that we can take our personnel and address what happened to us Sunday.”

Smith, the longtime Cowboys critic, immediately fired back, stating, “Something’s wrong with him.”

According to multiple reports and league standings after the loss to the Panthers, the Cowboys’ defense ranked at or near the bottom of the league in several key categories, including total yards allowed and scoring. Also, it looks like trading Micah Parsons wasn’t really a smart move for the team.
