In 2024, the Ravens didn’t just have a strong offense—they had the league’s best. They led the NFL in total yards, averaging almost 429 per game and leaving defenses scrambling. Lamar Jackson threw for 4,172 yards and made it look easy. The receivers delivered, but it was Derrick Henry—at 31—who brought the edge, running like a man with something to prove. That unit ran like clockwork, only faster.

Henry came just short of the 2,000-yard mark, finishing with 1,921 rushing yards, 16 touchdowns, and an impressive 5.9 yards per carry. For a back many assumed was past his prime, he proved otherwise—breaking tackles, extending plays, and carrying defenders like they were part of the drill. The Ravens clearly took notice, handing him a two-year, $30 million extension. And now?

Well, the RB just shared a message to the Ravens fans. On Monday, the Baltimore team’s official ‘X’ handle shared a clip of Henry, captioned, “@KingHenry_2 checking in post extension.” The clip shows Henry delivering a message to his fans, stating, “What up flock? Derrick Henry here. Just re-signed. Excited to get back to work. Let’s get to it.”

After weeks of negotiation, Henry finally put pen to paper and signed a two-year, $30 million contract extension. The contract terms include $25 million guaranteed at signing with an average annual salary of $15 million. And that means only one thing. The latest contract extension for the 31-year-old back makes him one of the highest-paid RBs, behind Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey, who are stacking up $20M and $19M annually, respectively.

Right after he signed an extension, Lamar Jackson hopped up on his IG handle along with the NFL and shared a few pictures of himself with Derrick, captioning, “This duo is locked in for the long haul 🤞.” The quarterback later re-shared the post in his IG story and was speechless while showing gratitude for Derrick Henry’s contract extension“🤞🤞😈,” Lamar captioned. Yup, just three emojis. That’s all.

But while you all get pretty excited to see Henry in his second year in Baltimore, John Harbaugh and Co. are plotting something for Lamar’s arsenal.

The Ravens are still building their roster despite re-signing Derrick Henry

At this point, it won’t be wrong to say that Lamar Jackson finally has the best supporting crew on his offense. Last season, they already had the second-year receiver, Zay Flowers, who had 1,059 yards in 15 starts and racked up 4 touchdowns. Not to mention, Rashod Bateman recorded the best season of his career so far for the Ravens when he had 45 receptions for 756 yards and 9 TDs.

Add tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely, the Ravens were almost close to booking a trip to the Super Bowl. First for Lamar. But nope. They fell short when the Bills edged them in thrilling fashion in the divisional round. But it seems like Lamar and Co. are returning to flip the script in the 2025 season. They’ve already re-signed Derrick Henry on a two-year deal.

Derrick Henry at 31—still a beast or just a flash in the pan? What's your take?

Have an interesting take?

Besides, they also brought DeAndre Hopkins on a one-year, $5 million deal. And that’s where it gets pretty interesting for the team. See, Hopkins might likely hang up his cleats after the 2025 season, and the Ravens could always use a veteran receiver. And that’s where Anthony Palacios of Last Word comes in. Palacios believes that Baltimore could trade for the Texans‘ receiver, Christian Kirk.

“The Ravens are going to need a wide receiver anyway if DeAndre Hopkins decides to retire after this season,” he noted. “Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman are still expected to be the dynamic duo unless Bateman continues to be inconsistent. Either way, they need a long-term WR3, and Kirk could help in a reduced role for a couple of years before they draft one playmaker as a replacement.” But it’s not going to be as simple as it sounds.

See, the Texans just traded for Kirk from the Jaguars in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft. So, another trade? That’s unlikely, plus it’s rare as well. To make it messier, Kirk signed a four-year, $72 million contract with the Jags back in 2022. That means the veteran wide receiver is currently in his contract year. So, after re-signing Derrick Henry, John Harbaugh and Co. will have to address Kirk’s contract extension as well.

So, all in all, a trade could happen, no doubt. But the chances are lower than Pittsburgh finally signing a franchise QB.
