The Chicago Bears just snatched up a major player from the Chiefs’ front office crew, and Patrick Mahomes is feeling the loss already. Ted Crews, the Chiefs‘ main man in communications for over a decade, is taking his talents to the Windy City. The Bears hired the seasoned vet as a “special advisor” to their big boss, Kevin Warren. Mahomes took to X (formerly Twitter) to bid Crews a heartfelt farewell, writing: “Going to miss my guy! Chicago is getting a great one!”

This is a major win for the Bears. Crews has been a part of the Chiefs’ championship-winning squad since 2012, working his way up to Executive VP of Communications. He’s been a key figure in orchestrating the team’s media game, from the Arrowhead Stadium naming rights to the launch of those slick Chiefs Fit fitness centers. His departure comes at a time when Andy Reid’s contract was successfully extended.

Expectedly, Ted Crews is not only known in the Chiefs camp but his reputation is spread across the NFL realm. He’s been honored by the Fritz Pollard Alliance for his success as an African American executive, and he’s been tapped to captain the Super Bowl PR staff ten times. That’s why the Bears are happy to have him. And so is Crews.

“It meant everything to me, literally everything. It just affirmed to me what George and Kevin are about, and it is the same thing that I am about: plugging into people and how they are wired and what is important to them. Kevin knows how much my family means to me and that the decision (to join the Bears) would be a family decision. And so for George and Kevin to allow that to happen, it showed me a lot and meant a lot,” he stated.

But as Mahomes’ tweet shows, Crews wasn’t just respected for his professional endeavors– he’s a beloved member of the Chiefs fam. After over a decade of winning together, it’s only natural for the star QB to feel that sting of seeing a teammate depart. In fact, Crews has lived in Kansas City for the last 12 years and it’s a big thing to uproot his family to a different place. Hence, while Mahomes is bummed about his exit, he’s gotta be stoked that his coach, the legendary Andy Reid’s extension.

But that’s not all – according to sources, if Reid sees this contract through to 2029 at age 66, and the Chiefs keep racking up Ws as they have been, the all-time coaching wins record could be within Big Red’s reach. The details of his new deal are still under wraps, but insiders say the pay will be huge. Not a bad thing for a coach who’s already cemented his legacy with over 250 regular season dubs and four Super Bowl rings.

Of course, Reid being Reid, he’s not just chasing cash – he wants to make history. No team has ever won three straight Lombardi Trophies, and you know that achievement has Big Red’s full attention after last year’s triumph. With Reid staying put and Mahomes still in his prime, the Chiefs are most likely the favorites to run it back in 2024.
