CJ Stroud has been the darling of the NFL since his arrival at the league. The 22-year-old is a heavy favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Not only that, the QB is going neck to neck with Commanders‘ Sam Howell for the season’s most productive QB. But despite his heroics, the Texans, on a larger scale, have failed to emulate the success.

Recently, they fared up against Trevor Lawrence‘s Jacksonville Jaguars. And the 2021 first-round draft took care of business to maintain their divisional lead. But instead of letting out a sigh of relief, the 24-year-old had a brutally honest and equally funny take regarding the Stroud match-up.

Trevor Lawrence doesn’t like CJ Stroud being in his division

Post-game, one of the interviewers asked Lawrence if he was happy facing the young sensation twice a year or not. The former almost immediately answered, “No, I want the teams in our division to be as bad as possible.” And then the reporter and the quarterback himself had a giggle about it.

However, soon Lawrence acknowledged the quality of the Stroud-led Texans and expected a good rivalry. “The way they’re playing, it’s exciting, yes! There’s gonna be, I’m sure, some great matchups down the road.”

Lawrence ended on a hopeful note saying he wants great matchups to happen between them in the future. But are the Texans themselves prepared for it?

CJ Stroud: The Story of a one-man army

Just like Lawrence, enthusiastic fans too have expected encouraging displays from the Texans. But that has been pretty much the whole story for the team this season. Often over-expected and underdelivered, excluding CJ Stroud. In a season marred by inconsistency, the QB has been their lone hero. For every game the Texans have won, they have managed to lose another one or sometimes two to hold them back. Around a month ago, the team became the sole victim of the Carolina Panthers, statistically the worst team in the season with that single win so far.

Moving ahead, the road is not clear for the Texans either. Next week, the Russell Wilson-led Denver Broncos travel to Texas to take on the team, and the late surging Orange Crush is gliding past one challenge after another like nothing. In that context, it will be mostly a battle of Broncos Defense vs CJ Stroud. The game will be live from NRG Park on Sunday, December 3.

Trevor Lawrence got the better of CJ Stroud, will Russell Wilson manage the same too? Or will the young QB put an end to Wilson’s win streak? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
