Now that Russell Wilson is out of the Denver Broncos team, the team is in a bit of a fix! They don’t have a lot in the salary cap to sign new players in the upcoming Draft. Neither do they have the money to sign veteran players. Plus, they have the $39 million that they need to pay Wilson in 2024 for not even playing for them.

Amidst this, the blame game continues. While some feel that Sean Payton was the reason for Wilson’s falling out with the team, some are on Payton’s side. A new social media debate has emerged following claims made by a podcaster.

Mark Schlereth defends Sean Payton

An X account called out the former guard for his view that Russell Wilson was somewhere responsible for bringing the tragedy on himself. “You used to be the most unbiased dude in the media and called everything down the middle. You are carrying Sean Payton’s water Mark. Y’all acting like that dude is Vince Lombardi 😂,” the account had commented on one of his tweets.

However, Schlereth decided to fight the allegations. He took to X to say, “Bulls**t… if you think Sean Peyton sabotage Russell Wilson, then you’re a moron.” But that’s not it. He also runs his own podcast, where he had clearly outlined three reasons why he does not think that Payton deliberately sabotaged Wilson.

Why Payton is not to be blamed for Russell Wilson’s exit

On his Stinkin’ Truth Podcast, he said, “All you people that saying well he just tried to sabotage Russ you have no idea listen to me when I tell you this you have no idea what you’re looking at if you sit here and tell me that Russ was good I’m going to tell you one you don’t know what you’re looking at.”

It seems that Schlereth knows something that we don’t know. He also said the second reason why people blindly think Payton is responsible for the entire saga is, “You didn’t look at the film.” And his third reason was that if you defend Wilson, you’re a former QB who is trying to look out for a fellow QB.

He actually supported Payton’s move and said that it’s better to rip the band-aid off now. “So I for one am glad they’re actually moving on and saying ‘Hey, we’re going to fix this thing and we’re going to tear it down and rebuild it’.” But can Sean Payton really rebuild the Broncos prior to the 2024 season?
