A couple of wide receivers went down with a knee injury in Week 4. Unfortunately, Tyreek Hill was one of the receivers. The Miami Dolphins‘ WR went down in the third quarter of Monday Night Football against the New York Jets with what’s believed to be a dislocated kneecap and ligament damage, confirmed by the head coach, Mike McDaniel.

That said, on Tuesday, September 30, McDaniel admitted that Hill is currently undergoing surgery to repair his left knee. The good news, though? NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reported that McDaniel has only heard positive updates so far, and it looks like Hill may avoid nerve damage.

On top of that, McDaniel also pointed out a silver lining: The doctors moved quickly but determined Hill’s surgery could wait until morning, avoiding an emergency procedure. He also mentioned the team is hopeful that Hill won’t need any additional operations. “We don’t know the extent of the injury. Doctors have told me he dislocated his knee, which I think was apparent for everyone who watched the horrific play,” Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said.

“But what that means, and the extent of the damage, and whether he’ll need surgery, to what extent, all of that we should find out within the next couple hours.” The eight-time Pro Bowler hurt his knee while catching a 10-yard pass from Tua Tagovailoa on a third-and-8 play, as the Fins set up a touchdown.

The 28-year-old was then carted off the field before being transported to a hospital. Before suffering the gruesome injury, Hill caught six receptions for 67 yards while also racking up a touchdown. As for the 2025 season, he has recorded 21 receptions for 265 yards. But with this setback, it’s clear he won’t be adding much more to those numbers.

Tyreek Hill is out for the rest of the season

Right after being rushed to the hospital following the knee dislocation, Tyreek Hill shared a post on his social media handle and thanked his fans for the prayers. “Thank you guys for the prayers, I feel all the love. ❤️ here we go✌🏿,” he wrote. On top of that, the former Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead took to his social media and admitted that he had a FaceTime call with Hill.

“First thing he said, ‘man I’m just happy we got that win!!” Armstead wrote. “He’s in good spirits and said he was laughing through the pain, to avoid passing out!! crazy! Praying for best news possible and speedy recovery!” However, the 31-year-old wideout is officially done for the season, according to McDaniel. To make matters worse, this injury could also have implications for his 2026 campaign.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus told NFL Network that the surgery “went very well” with no additional operations anticipated.

With Hill sidelined, Jaylen Waddle moves from the team’s second receiving option to the primary target in Miami’s passing attack. The promotion places significantly more defensive attention and responsibility on Waddle’s shoulders as he assumes the top receiver role.

Head coach Mike McDaniel revealed he and general manager Chris Grier have discussed potentially signing a free-agent receiver to bolster depth. However, the organization must first evaluate whether any available options represent genuine upgrades over current roster players.
