The Miami Dolphins finally broke their losing streak this week against their AFC East rivals on Sunday. Dolphins secured a decisive 30-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills. The win marked their first triumph over the Bills since the 2022 season. The Bills, who entered the game at 6-3, weren’t at their best, allowing the Dolphins to set the pace. Soon after, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa hinted that Buffalo’s real issue might have lain in their hunger to win compared to the Dolphins.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa spearheaded the Dolphins’ offense, finishing the day with 173 passing yards and two touchdowns. Speaking with Melanie Collins of CBS Sports immediately following the emotional victory, Tagovailoa offered a concise explanation for the results.

“We beat a good team. It’s not like these guys just came in here with [a nonchalant attitude]. They came out here wanting to win too, and I think we just wanted it more.”

Tagovailoa himself had a second career victory against the Buffalo Bills, a team that was fresh off a win over the Kansas City Chiefs. While he didn’t explicitly doubt his opposite QB, Josh Allen’s hunger to win, he did emphasize wanting the result more than them. The Dolphins played an almost complete game, with the defense setting the tone early and limiting the Bills for three quarters.

They limited the Bills to just two touchdowns, getting key turnovers, including a crucial interception and two recovered fumbles. This dominant defensive display was a major factor in the victory. Tagovailoa summed up the magnitude of the moment, saying,

“Every time you can get a win in the NFL, that’s special, but given the times we’ve played Buffalo in the past and gotten close and gotten blown out, I think this one makes it that much more special.”

The game started with a slight stumble, as Bills safety Cole Bishop intercepted Tagovailoa on the Dolphins’ opening drive. However, the home team showed immediate resilience, responding with scores on their next two drives and maintaining the lead for the rest of the contest. Result? There was no turning back for the Dolphins, ultimately resulting in their win.

The Miami Dolphins finally shattered Josh Allen’s domination

The Buffalo Bills walked into Miami with a confident record. However, their historic seven-game winning streak against the Dolphins was erased in a tough 30-13 loss on Sunday. Although the initial stages weren’t ideal, with Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel appearing salty with the opening drive.

On the opening drive, Tua Tagovailoa’s pass into double coverage was picked off by rookie safety Cole Bishop, setting an uneasy tone early on. Head coach Mike McDaniel later addressed the situation about that first possession, using it as an example of how his team has learned to respond when things go wrong.

“It’s an unintended consequence of adversity. We’ve had our fair share of reps of having things not play out the way we set out for them to play out,” he said after the game.

For the Bills, the night could have been better. The offense was stuck in neutral, managing a shocking zero points through the first three quarters of the game. Josh Allen threw for 306 yards and 2 touchdowns, but those scores came only in the fourth quarter when the game was essentially over.

Running back James Cook also lost a crucial fumble midway through the second quarter, halting what looked like a promising Bills drive deep in Miami territory. The turnover came just as Buffalo appeared to be finding its rhythm, shifting momentum firmly back to the Dolphins. Allen did not hide his frustration afterward, addressing the team’s missed chances.

“They came ready to play, they wanted it more than us,” Allen said.

Allen’s candid admission summed up the night. For Miami, though, this win came after weeks of scrutiny and setbacks. With playoff hopes still bleak, the Dolphins will surely attempt to regain form in the AFC East.
